Two videos tell people about the "gay lifestyle".

Justin Long's funny and from the Prop 8 campaign.

John Barrownam worked the music video for his hit song What About Us? around a gay and straight couple in some marital trouble. As the shots cut back and foth you loose track of which couple you are seeing.

I hope that the question means:"Would you commit a gay marriage?"
Otherwise it 'd be disappointing that such a discussion still exists. Let everybody do as they wish!

I'm for of course. In Czech Republic we got "registered partnership". It has some elements of marriage, some lack. Better than nothing but it's not ideal.

Since I live in a country that recognizes married couples of the same sex, of course I'd choose to get married to my partner rather than a civil union. But then, I believe all marriages are in actuality a civil union any way, since religion plays a very small roll in marriage, if any at all. Marriage is regulated by the state, which authorizes various entities, such as church officials or judges, to conduct a marriage ceremony. Contrary to the assertions of some, marriage, as an institution, did not originate with the church.

Gay marriage

are you guys for gay marriage? I feel we should get the same federal rights even if the rights come under a different name. I feel some heteros treat marriage like a joke.

i totally support gay marriage, those who don't are idiots or mad or both.

I support Gay Marriage so it's available to those who want to get married.
Personally I don't believe in marriage. it is just a contractual agreement between 2 people which mostly pertain to financial matters (tax break, insurance benefit, social security benefit, etc). <--- all of which will become more obvious during a divorce preceding.

do you want to hear my opinion? i am not for gay or straight marriages. i just hate "lets marry and we can live happy together until we die" thing, no matter what orientation the people who want to marry are. i just hate marriages. when 2 people love each other, they can be happy and stay together even without marriage and sometimes its better, cuz you dont have to divorce when youre not married. i just.... hate this. i cant stand watching man+man, woman+woman, man+woman marriages. its just stupid and its an unnecessary thing. but thats just what i think... if i will find a man/woman who i will love, ill live with her/him, and i wont marry. never. ever.

I support gay marriage, even I'm happy that gay marriage is legal in US right now although I'm not from that country. But sadly marriage it is about 'gambling' (Is it from Rome or Greece language, I forgot). And I'm agree with tuneart opinion that marriage is just about contractual agreements between two people.

I am for gay marriage. It is, to me, the same kind of relationship as the one between two people of opposite gender.

I am in support of gay marriage. I think that all people should have the right to express their love for each other within the bonds of marriage, whoever their partner is. A gay relationship is no different to a straight one, so why should the way gay people get to celebrate their commitment be any different to heterosexuals?
And I would say that even if you see marriage as just a religious institution, that gay people should still be able to be married. Being gay does not segregate you away from God in my view, and gay people have just as much right to show their commitment to each other before God, and see God's blessing on their lives.

What about the practicalities?

Tax? Inheritance? Visitation rights in hospital?

If you want to build a life together you need recognition of that relationship or you cannot practically deal with the realities of life.

Whether or not you call it marriage or civil union is irrelevant, you need to get legal recognition of your status to get through life together.

This is certainly your choice, however, your argument against marriage to me sounds more emotional than practical. A marriage confers upon a couple certain rights and responsibilities that no other contract can offer. When a couple gets married, there is in fact three parties to that marriage. The couple getting married, and the government which promises to honour and respect the marriage. By forgoing getting married and opting instead to enter into one or more contracts to bind yourself to each other, you essentially eliminate the third party from the contract. The government is not required to honour or respect those other contracts, because it was never a party to the contracts to begin with. Hospitals can ignore power of attourney documents, inheritance contracts can be contested by family (and in fact can be made null and void). And for certain the government is not required to give a couple who chooses not to marry any tax benefits normally associated with a marriage.

You also bring up a point about divorce. While there is always a risk that any relationship could eventually fall apart, we as humans can never grow unless we're willing to accept that risk. Not having a marriage certificate does not make separating any easier, nor less messy, since the courts are increasingly treating non-married cohabiting couples the same as they would married couples these days when one former partner sues the other.
