OK, I know that this is a grim subject...

In the past ten years I've had three friends murdered. They weren't close friends but still people I knew well enough.

The first was D. I went to high school with D. A Gulf war vet, he was paralyzed by a hit and run driver while riding his bicycle. He died from complications from his injuries two years later. The driver has never been found.

Then there was W. An older, mildly retarded man that was a neighborhood fixture. Very kind and friendly, when he found out that an old acquaintance was down on his luck, he let him crash on his couch. But the guy was a crack head and in a drug rage, stabbed him through the heart with a kitchen knife.

And now, just a few days ago, another school friend was stabbed to death in a story straight out of a Lifetime movie of the week. His ex wife got her 17 yo lover and his cousin to kill him...:(

Holy crap! Those are some pretty serious stories there!

I never knew a murder victim, but I did see a dead body once. I was only 15 and I was in Mexico. There is this forest that I loved to visit with my cousins; it had so many things inside of it that fascinated us (passage ways, an abandoned house on top of the mountains, lakes, rivers, we made mud slides into the lake like otters, etc.)...well, one day, my cousin and I separated for awhile and I saw a man's dead body on top of some rocks, sort of half-hidden under a branch from a tree. He was stabbed or shot in the chest. I didn't get too close because I thought he would jump up and grab me. I noticed him long enough to observe that he wasn't breathing. Traumatized, I ran back home and told my dad. He said to keep quiet because we might get targeted by the killers for knowing anything (the municipal government of that town was very corrupt and sometimes got rid of people that "knew too much"). NOW, the drug lords, los Zetas, are in charge and they do things much worse than that. My dad made us all go back to Texas after I told him about the dead body.

I still get traumatized by the memory of seeing the breathless dead body hidden under a branch on top of the rocks.

I'm sorry to say that I do indeed know too many of them but that would be because I used to be an outreach worker working with street youths and homeless people, life on the street is an other realm with its own unwritten rules. I have in my short 36 years of life witness so much that I'm one hard dude to impress or surprised, just last three years I have witnessed a live suicide where I was asked to come and help somebody to not commit suicide, but it was too late, his mind was set, no matter what I would say would never make him change his mind, he turn his 45 semi automatic toward him and pull the trigger and let me tell you all, brain is a messy gelatinous matter and it smells worst than morning shit. I'm not the crying type dude as my tears have dried years ago (except for Alex when he cries) but that day wow that was too much.

Yes, I have seen enough in this world to write a series of books and this wouldn't be make believe fake ass hollyweed crap, it's real.

I'm no stranger to violent death. I've seen it in battle and I once worked transporting bodies for the coroners office, where I saw all sorts of accident, suicide, and murder victims. I've picked up pieces of brains and placed dismembered corpses into bags.

I just find it strange that in a smaller, mid-western city, with a low violent crime rate, that I would have three friends murdered when my mother, who lived in Washington D.C., one of the most dangerous cities in the country, has never known a single person that was murdered.

It makes me think that humanity is even closer to self destruction than I thought. Which is pretty bad as I already had a very low opinion of humanity to begin with...

I knew an older man, retired USAF, who was killed by a hustler. When I read about it in the newspaper, it convinced me that what is written in newspapers is mostly fiction.

There was a murder near where I lived, which was never reported in the press at all, but a local policeman told me the details. It could be used as an episode of The Vampire Diaries.

A friend of mine died from drugs when he was very young, and another guy, a stoner, died in an apartment fire.

There were probably others that I can't remember now, because I don't like to think about things like that very much.

Sadly, one too many...

My next door neighbor's youngest daughter, who was my brother's best friend was shot and killed in her sleep by her then boyfriend, who killed himself and left a suicide note that said, "When you cremate me, put me in the toilet because I was nothing but shit anyway" or something like that. It was one of the few (if any) times that I saw my brother break down. She was an awesome person.

Another person, the mother to a childhood friend of mine, was a heavy drug user and had HIV, but was always around my neighborhood and I respected her as I did anyone else. She was killed by some thugs in my area in the early 90's.

Too much death and too much closeness. :(

Yes, a good friend who spent 6 months a year here in Thailand, got murdered in his own house in France by a guy who beat him to death (now 6 years ago). He called the police himself after the killing and just said: "It needed to be done." Never found out what he implied by that, but I know the murdered guy as a gentle, good, warm hearted man.

Couple of my old co-workers were beaten to death by their husbands (no relation in their cases). One man was stabbed to death in a fight.

A guy I worked with was murdered along with his wife. They were victims of an arson attack on their home. Their daughter fell out with another girl and her father poured petrol through the letter box before setting light to it.

In a way I did; at the day my mother died. I loved her dearly. She gave me all the love a man can wish. She was old, 88 years and my father passed away years before. Suddenly her body system started to fail. I joined her all day, from 10 in the morning. It was rather obvious that the end was near. At 18.00 she was brought by ambulance to the hospital. The intensive care specialist said to me that the situation was bad; they had to reanimate her in the ambulance. I gave the doctor strict orders that they had no permission to reanimate again. Half an hour later she was dead. I killed her. OMG it hurt so much and it still does. It was a “crime passionel”.
