help with firefox

I keep ending up with videos that show up as firefox doents? Even Vlc can't open them. Is this somebody's idea of a joke when they post or am I missing something?
Any help wud be so appreciated.

This happens to me , it's just where it hasn't connected properly, assuming the link you're clicking is right clickable, it's downloading as an html file. Just try again, happens sometimes to me at busy times.

If the resulting file is as big as you'd expect the video to be, it may be that the browser got the wrong file type. Renaming the resulting file might make it play for you, as long as you get the extension correct - .avi, .wmv, .mp4, .flv, etc.

If the file is less than 50k, then you probably saved an intermediate page served up by the filehosting site. This often happens if you right-click and choose "Save as..." when the filehost expects you to deal with their webpage first, maybe to type in a Captcha or to look at some advertising. If that's the case, try left-clicking the download link. It will either take you to the intermediate page or, usually, will pop up the "View or Save" prompt in the browser.
