Hot Dog Eating Contest

Seems there was some big hot dog eating contest in the United States today. Amazingly it was the lead story for several television news programs.

Hope I'm not offending anyone here, but that is absolutely disgusting.

These people eat something like 42 hot dogs and buns in a few minutes. Every time they showed it on the news I had to turn away before I threw up. People are just cramming this junk in their mouths!!!

I don't understand the correlation here that July 4th our Country celebrating it's birthday, by a hot dog eating contest.
How can the rest of the world take us seriously when that is our big event??????

We have shitty healthcare, way to much unemployment, a government run by pharmaceutics, and oil companies. Some state governments, like where I live, are shut down because we have no money. But Jimmy over there can eat 42 hot dogs, so all must be right with the world!!!!

Any nation not willing to conform to our will better watch out, or we will eat all their hot dogs!!!

I was similarly taken aback. Seems to be an annual contest. I also thought, even if he is obese, how could he get even half that food into his belly and KEEP it there while pouring in even more? Incredible and incredibly nauseating!

RIGHT! It was said of ancient Rome that the people only wanted more bread and circuses. So in today's world, that might be more fat faces stuffed with more hot dogs, and more people lining up to cheer those gluttons onward.X_X

You're referring to the Nathan's National Hot Dog Eating Competition... happens here in NYC every year.

Talk about being ashamed to be a New Yorker. X_X I never got the point of that, although that Asian guy is kind of cute. :blushing:

The American character is to do everything big. That includes these eating contests. Nonetheless people who can do this are the exception. They are the extremes, the far end of the Bell curve.

When you think about it, its as difficult to stuff down food like this as it is to quarterback at the Superbowl. AN ordinary mortal is simply unable to , err, compete at this level.

Corrections.

It was 62 hot dogs in 10 minutes!!
OMG!!!
How many spectators barfed just watching that? And who would want to?

Also our healthcare is really very good. I misspoke, I meant our health insurance.

Just had to set the record straight.

Nathan's is known not only for this eating contest but also for their french fries. They are thick and crinkle cut. They are pretty good and many of the delicatessens in NYC copy them and make them the same way.

They used to cut them in the store from fresh potatoes, now they are frozen. Still, my vote for best fries is from the national hamburger chain Five Guys.

Did the guy from Japan win again? Or is that a different hot dog contest?

Ok, a Korean woman , Sonja Thomas won the women's division. A Japanese competitor, Takeru Kobayashi, declined to participate, but competed remotely. The title was defended for the 5th year straight by Californian, Joey Chestnut.

From what I gathered the Japanese guy actually ate more but was not in a sanctioned event so his win is meaningless.
