hotfile problems

is it just me, or are other people experiencing problems with hotfile of late?

It's not just their recent increase in waiting time from 15 minutes to 30 minutes which was irritating.
But also at certain times of the day especially evenings, download speed is excruciatingly slow-sometimes 8 Kbs, which makes even small files take several hours.
But the most irritating thing of all, that is happening quite frequently of late, is that one can't download at all.

Although not downloading any other file, sometimes when clicking on a link Message said "You are currently downloading..
Free users are allowed to only one parallel download..", which drives you crazy when you actually not downloading anything at all.

after several hours of waiting eventually one can download again, but this keeps happening :angry:

Tried everything like dis-and-reconnecting Internet, but no dice!

Have come to the conclusion for free stuff hotfile is getting more and more useless frustrating and time-consuming.

Find the best ones for free are megaupload, mediafire and that Russian mail.ru

I have noticed the slow d/ld speeds, but never has an issue getting a d/load...

Mail.ru I'd agree is an excellent host for free users.

I'm surprised more don't use it.

I have a Hotfile account (with a great offer of 1 extra month free) so can't comment on how it affects free users.

But few days ago I tried to download few links from Mail.ru, and the downloading speed was very slow :worried:

I'm not sure if it was a temporarily problem only that day, or maybe they have slowed down the downloading speed for the free users.

Hello all,

the slow downloads from hotfile I had too. It is like rapidshare not the best service for free users. But I hadn't the problem with the "currently downloading" by hotfile yet, tp3813. The only thing I thought at the moment I read it, was a shared IP (but you cut your connection already), to delete the cached files and especially the cookies. Perhaps it helps. :? :thinking:

I second, "mail.ru" is really an interesting service, xman101! I load down as a free user yesterday, and the speed was (more than) okay. Perhaps it was really a temporarily problem, Bo.

I've not had any of the problems with Hotfile that you describe. The loading speed is usually a little over 100 kbs, and I find Hotfile much more accessible for free users than Rapidshare. Given a choice, I'd recommend Hotfile for downloads.

Well, I have a premium account with Hotfile and I constantly have problems, slow download speed, constant interruptions of the downloads etc etc. I decided not to renew the account when will expire. I still prefer megaupload and rapidshare (the fastest one with an account!)

There are a lot of factors that can influence downloading performance. First, of course, is traffic on the site's servers. Free user downloading speed is automatically throttled allowing the site's premium users better access and speed.

Another factor is network congestion. There are a lot of network nodes and connections in the Internet, and when traffic is heavy, everyone's speed will slow. Personally, as a free user, I don't see much difference in downloading speeds from the various services, but when the network is busy, I do experience slower downloads.

There's not much the downloading service can do about network congestion, and what congestion you experience depends not only on your ISP, but on all the Internet components between you and server. Time of day appears to be the major determinate of the download speed I experience.

My major gripe with Rapidshare is that there are long periods during the day when I cannot get a connection. The service responds with an error message explaining they are busy. With the other services, I can usually get a connection within a few minutes even during mid-afternoon.

I'm not sure does it depend of the geolocation or something, but I just tried it again, and it's slowed down at me again, the speed is 25 times slower than it was before :thinking:

I have to agree with you: files.mail.ru is really a good free service. Waiting time takes only a few seconds, fast download speed, and if I remember well they delete files with no downloads after 100 days only.
At the same time RS (Premium account) and HF (free account) both are quiet fast for me.

I agree - HOTFILE is an utter waste of effort. I would never subscribe to them as their free service is so bad. I would not trust all the promo that goes with their paid service.

Any chance we can use someone else? Hotfile are hopless. Brian

Well, it's the uploaders choice where s/he uploads it. As long as it's not on our banned list every file host is allowed.

I have had a similar problem with Rapidshare as already downloading a file. I use satelite and my connection was lost briefly and it took almost 24 hours for the problem to fix itself. I have a program that was running in the background trying to resume a download when as a free user, it would not resume. We as free users have to remember that these sites are in business to sell memberships and if they offer the free stuff with no restrictions, why would we take a membership? I recently took a month's membership from RS for less than $10.00 US currency, which was very reasoanble., But if I was to purchase memberships from MF, HF, RF and several others, it would be quite expensive. A possible sollution would be for GH to select one site for uploading and then we could choose to either join the site or put up with the restrictions.
