Just what the hell is up with Hotfile?

I signed up with a Premium account, and yet am still getting ridiculouly slow download times.

Hours to download a file.

Any suggestions to speed this up? Especially with Orbit downloader?

Really, given the prevalance of Hotfile as a downloader on this boord, I'd be all for banning it again.

Works great for me ! It must be your connection / line speed / location etc.

It's not quite as fast as RS but it's not anything like as slow as it is for you.

As an experiment try downloading at an off peak time, see if there is any difference. I don't use any downloaders by the way, just click and it downloads.

I also have a HF premium account and don't have any problems with it. DL speed is good. Almost the same as RS.

Unfortunately some guys don't have pleasant experience with HF.

Yeah I've got exactly the same problem...nothing better than 15kb/s, so it take four to five hours to download a file. What a waste of money.

I fully sympathise because I naively took out a 3 month Hotfile Premium account, but find I have exactly the same problem. I don't know whether it's Hotfile's fault - it could be my ISP (BT), but why only Hotfile? Even the free services of other sites are faster. Anyway, whoever's fault, the effect is the same. Until about 10pm I'm lucky if I can get 8k; more normally it's only 2 or 3k . Then it gradually gets faster till it can reach speeds as good as any other site (600k) by 1am. So when I post I now NEVER use HF because I wouldn't want to inflict the same crappery on anybody else. I stick with Rapidshare. Safe, boring, (generally) reliable, though I know they have had occasional problems. RS gets slower in the evenings too, but even at its worst it's more than ten times as fast as Hotfile.

Having said that, thanks to all posters, whatever site you choose to use; you've posted a hell of a lot of fine stuff and you are so generous. But the truth is that whenever I see a Hotfile link, my poor brain goes goes aaarrrrgh!

Ritorno - my experience is exactly the same, and I too use BT. Maybe, and I'm guessing here, Hotfile simply doesn't work in the UK, which is where I am, because of the location of their servers. Since my last post I've emailed Hotfile for their response - I'm still waiting, but if and when I hear from them I'll let you all know.

And yes, my thanks too go out to all Hotfile posters...the links look great, I just wish I could access them!

Megaupload and mediafire are the most consistent with speed for downloading. mediafire is consistently at least 150kb's a second. Megaupload with a free account tends to stick around 1mb or so per second.

rapidshare sucks because of the whole "buy an account" thing now 9/10 i have to wait for a free slot and have to to wait an hour between downloads and also the download speeds ar a lie. a download yesterday started at 1:15 pm and said it would be done in 1 minute, it finished at 1:30. I'd rather just jump from studio to studio every couple months, then i could have a collection rather then buying accounts to download these uploaded files. that's why i pretty much only download from megaupload and mediafire.

don't even get me started on sendspace (snailspace) and uploadedto.wtf ever

I suspect it's your ISP and/or your local connection. If it's busy (& I'll agree that Hotfile is a little slower than some, but not that much) it's going to slow right down. Plus an ISP will impose speed restrictions if you've downloaded a lot in a certain period. All websites download to an extent I think so adds up.

I'm in the UK but not with BT (apart from the phone connection) and haven't found Hotfile a big problem. There are others I just wouldn't touch unless I am watching a movie and just leave it running while I'm away.

Wondering if BT is the common cause maybe.

I've had no problems with Hotfile, maybe it's your ISP as X said.

i have no problem with HOTFILE speed is faster than RS here in the PHILIPPINES, problem with RS is that there are currently too many users such that download slots for free are usually not available during peak hours.goodluck to you i hope u can solve your peroblem.i have a suggestion why don't you just run cmd, release your connection then renew it, here's the command = ipconfig /release *Con* ipconfig /renew *Con* then restart your pc. this is good if ISP is the problem.
