How come preferences shifted in File Hosting?

I recall when Rapidshare and Hotfile were about the only two one ever saw here, other than Megaporn/Megaupload. What's up with Oron and some of the others? Personally, I am not going to buy memberships in every file hosting system, just too much of a hassle and too expensive. And the free portions of those sites are way too slow and bersome to even bother with. Some of them have rotten interfaces and lousy customer service when asked for help

Perhaps some of these newer hosting services are paying their members with money or points? Dunno, but I resolved not to pay more than two hosts, and I took memberships with Hotfile and Rapidshare - great service and never yet had an issue using them. Most of the time, I just pass on the other stuff that is loaded to other sites, even if it looks hot and inviting.

Well the market is quickly becoming saturated now that filehosts see how profitable it is since technology is getting cheaper compared to the last few years. And when once leaders such as rapidshare fall down hard, there's more room for other FS to fill up the void.

Personally I think its great Everyone has a choice. I had problems once with hotfile and they never replied to my emails. If hotfile was the only filehost around, I would have been stuck. Rapidshare lost a recent case in Germany and might close out soon, if it was the only filehost around, where would uploaders go to?

Unfortunately, you got it right...

All of these upstart file host have been paying people for downloads and the sad fact is that many posters are just in it for the money and don't give a shit about sharing for the sake of sharing...

On the flip side, I *used* to use RS for uploads, but with their latest changes it's damned near impossible for free users to get a file from them. Shades of FileFactory... "sorry, there are no free slots on this server, piss off, little boy!"

Of the 'new' servers, FileServe seems to be the quickest overall for free users, and I don't get popups from them.
