So, if you have any tips or stories on how to find your dream job, please share cause I'm totally lost with mine:) Been just doing different kind of jobs but I really would like to educate myself higher, but it seems that... I don't know... feels like I'm allergic to work sometimes:thinking:

I got into my career choice by accident. I was working as a "temp" for a friend of mine who was a manager at a employment agency and she encouraged me to take on the position for a few weeks. After the first couple of days, the director liked me a lot and offered me a full-time position and I just evolved from there.

I got into it by accident. I mass mailed resumes to anyone in the phone book remotely related to chemistry.(my field). I got a response from the director of a large public utility. He asked me to come in and gave me the job.

I worked in that job for 1 year then moved into a much better job in the same company. Nothing whatsoever to do with chemistry and I haven't picked up a test tube since. Now I'm essentially a software engineer, self taught, no formal training. I've got specialized utility industry licenses which are hard to get and allow me to work just about anywhere.

Back in July I left that job and now just fool around with real estate. With the market collapse this is the candy store of real estate markets. When not surfing for porn on GH, I surf for foreclosed properties at fire sale.

Music=fabulous
Video Games=Fun
Therefore, if we add music and video games together we get fabulously fun. I want to help create the fabulously fun.

i was fed up with my master degree program and decided to take a sabbatical for 5 months. I then applied for an internship program in this MNE specializes in lighting, healthcare, and consumer lifestyle solutions. 5 months became 7 months and 7 months evolved into full-time job offer. my manager really took care of me and gave every single opportunity there was for me to grow.

I consider what I do a job as oppose to a career. I live in a relative small town and I just wanted a good paying job and that is were I wound up. I work in an office and I like it most of the time but at the time I took the job I didn't know what I wanted to do and next think you know, a decade has passed, lol.

Actually I always knew waht I wanted to do. It only took a few years of trying things until I finally realized what I really wanted. Most of my old friends knew before me that I should become a teacher. Now working I can`t even think of doing something else.

Interesting stories, fun to see how people rarely end up with the job they anticipated

I started my own business just for a laugh as I have been doing 3D Art and Digital Art for over the past 12 years as a hobby, and always wanted to become a teacher as a child as my mother is also a teacher, and well, basically I combined the both =)

I earned my degree in journalism. During summers I worked at a large research facility. Upon graduating I went back to research to make a living. 38 years later I took a gold plated handshake. Beginning in 2001 I began writing novels. My fourth was published by Dreamspinner Press 11/2010. So I suppose you'd say I headed toward one career, found another and will probably end as a novelist.

Sometimes you pick your career path and sometimes it picks you.

To be honest I hated analytical science, but I was good at it and it was good to me ($$$$). The economy was very bad when I entered the work force and trying my hand at an unknown, even though I had a degree, wasn't such a good idea when I had a standing offer of work. I began thinking about retiring the day after I started working! The novel thing just fired up out of nowhere. I didn't even consider publishing, let alone selling anything. But a fellow in Denver read a portion of my first novel and encouraged me.
And so, here I am writing another story. I wonder if I'll run out of plots? :?

I've got several plots in outline, but truthfully, they don't inspire much. Maybe it's the winter doldrums settling in???
Oh and yes critics can be merciless. One such critic took me apart so badly, I considered giving up the pen to breed rattlesnakes!

Then maybe you should come down here, it's Summer that's beginning. :p

I'd love to but that would mean leaving Peter and my 12 dogs behind. We're getting snow the day after Christmas. That mean putting gas in the Subaru. My Lexus is a pig in snow.

Ha ha! Don't mind me, it's just me doing public relations for the resort again. I should consider sending an invoice for the extracurricular work.:rofl:

I know what you mean. Before we began showing dogs, I used to travel. Italy is my favorite and I'm always giving hotel and travel tips. I should send the Italian travel board a bill.

My career sorta found me. As a kid I was fascinated by the broadcast industry. I ended up hanging out around radio and tv people and 'promoted' myself into a part-time job while still in high school - and went on to full time stuff as a voice artist and creative producer. Got some further education along the way, coupla degrees, and that has kept me at the head of the pack, getting the gigs I like without too much competition (I do a lotta freelance stuff).

If you can find some type of work that resonates with what you like to do, then that is the real career that you are destined for. Most medical doctors I know of have always wanted to heal and help, and they chose medicine, just as one example

I agree. I often wonder how my life would have been had I kept journalism as a career. As the Bible says, "The years that the locust hath eaten."

Through a friend. She asked me to accompany her to an open casting call that was looking for some models (duh ) and one of the casting director asked if I was auditioning too (I went in with my friend. It didn't even last 5 minutes). The idea evolved and here I am, a struggling amature model. :D

I'm sorta in the same boat as you. I'm a college freshman studying English. I don't know where that is going to get me. I just know that I am a good writer. My dream job/career would have to deal with music because I love to sing and am pretty good at it!!!
