How to Burn .MKV Files to DVD?

The software I use to burn AVIs to DVD doesn't seem to recognize a MKV file. Does anyone have any advice on how I can burn a MKV file to dvd? Is there another program that does that, or is my only hope to change it to an AVI file? The MKV files are much larger than the typical AVI files, so I'm guessing I'd have to split it to multiple DVDs.

What, if any, are the advantages to an MKV file?

.mkv means matroska. It is an open contailner format where various video and audio streams can e saved in. It is often used for HD material with the x264 video codec and AC3 or DTS audio codec.

Converting .mkv to a DVD format can be tricky. It depends on the Codecs used in the container.

You could use Avidemux and convert the .mkv to a normal avi file with xvid video and mp3 audio. Nero could then use this format to burn it to a dvd.

A friend of me mentioned that "Convert-X-To-DVD" also workst with .mkvs. You could also give this a try.

For Me, I use "VSO CONVERTXTODVD" To burn my Video Files (AVI, FLV, Etc. and also for MKV) That Software Accepts Any Video File That It will convert to DVD and then it automatically burns it afterwards, Or You can convert your MKV to VOB format and burn it using "VSO COPYTODVD" because it burns DVD formats directly without streaming it like other DVDs do.

But Back to your Question. My Best Suggestion would be "VSO CONVERTXTODVD"

You can also use mkv2vob if it dont must be a avi file. With this tool you get a .mpg file with no qualiti loss.
