To all our members who live on the U.S. eastern seaboard within the probable path of Hurricane Sandy and the winter storm - Stay safe, dry and warm... and good luck!!

Here's hoping the forecasters have got it wrong and it won't be as bad as they fear.

Went to work this morning. Then my boss's ceiling collapsed at home, so he decided to shut down the department.
The wind is really kicking up now, but I'm safe and sound at home.

Oh, Oh. A hundred year old oak tree just came down from the neighbor's yard. It really got the house next door. It's partially on my garage, but maybe no damage. It's so big I can't really be sure.

I did not have too many problems other than some siding being ripped from my house. In Connecticut, we have over 600,000 without power, and luckily, this time, i did not lose power.

But have seen some pictures from the Connecticut shore and many homes just rebuilt after last year's storm damage are totally destroyed this time and just heard that in New Jersey, there are over 7,000,000 without electricity.

With the destruction to lower Manhattan / Battery Park, I cannot even image how bad off New York is.

Our New York offices were all shut. From what I hear the damage depends pretty much on your neighbourhood. Had a very long call to San Francisco today and the line was terrible. Not idea whether it was related to the storm.

This is the Ground Zero building site

Seeing the terrible devastation this evening you wonder how anything can ever recover! That's going to be one hell of a huge job to get things even near normal.

At least the loss of life seems quite small, but the wreckage must be very disheartening for some.

This storm affected people in wildly different ways. Where it devastated, it obliterated everything in sight. I was lucky enough to survive without much problem, still have power and nothing was flooded. Other areas of the region weren't so lucky. Entire towns and neighborhoods decimated.

Rebuilding is going to be a long painful process. And it will definitely require a conversation about living in a new environmental reality as some officials have noted.

The only issue that I have to worry about a three bus commute into Midtown tomorrow. Others have to find a new home.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who would want to trade places right now. Things like this help us to remember what we do have in life and to be thankful, even if you're not religious.

Most of it I heard on the radio. The magnitude of the disaster is far beyond my imagination. My country, The Netherlands, is very small. In 1953 there was a big storm that caused the flooding of Zeeland, in fact a small part of our country. But even that was impossible to imagine. I really do hope that life will return to normal for all victims. The weapon of Zeeland has a slogan: Luctor et Emergo, what means I struggle and will survive. That is my wish for you.
