Nice collection, that. I'm neither a collector or a serious target shooter, but I earned my Marksman rifle and pistol badges, back when I was young and restless for some kind of excitement. If I were to acquire a personal weapon for self-defense, it would be a semi-automatic, something on the order of the Glock 17, or Sig Sauer P220. I've range-fired both and like their feel and balance. However, guns are expensive, and (self-defensively) are often more dangerous to the occasional, inexperienced user than to his intended target. I was instructed long ago never to cock a weapon and point it, unless I intended to fire, and that still is good advice. The stats on being shot by one's own weapon (by their assailant) are high enough to make any serious person think hard before considering the purchase of a weapon that they would only use to threaten someone. Since most of us are not trained to kill when confronted by a threat (like cops or the military), a handgun is not a wise investment.
I was a Marine and I'm an expert marksman, and my father was a cop. I am very well trained...
Even my mother, who despises guns, has had some advanced training, at my fathers insistence. He felt that as long as there were guns in the house, everyone living there should know how to handle them responsibly.
And while the Glock and Sig are both excellent carry guns, autos are not a good choice for home defense, they require too much maintenance. If your going to have a firearm that spends most of it's time locked away in a drawer, a revolver works best.
