Australian Olympic swimming legend Ian Thorpe has been inundated with support from fans and celebrities on the day that he is set to reveal he is gay in an interview with Sir Michael Parkinson after years of denials and speculation about his sexuality.

Well it isn't that much of a surprise. And his response to previous questioning about his sexuality wasn't dealt with very well - it was always I'm not gay (as if being gay is/was a four letter word). He could have said, no I'm not gay but I don't see anything wrong with being gay and I support gay rights etc. He was a bit of a dick about it to be honest.

I am happy he had to courage to come out of the closet. I love watching him during the Olympic.

I do recall that period where there was a lot of speculation and rumors about his sexuality and he did get quite offensive to those accusations as well as defiantly denying them to the highest degree. However, his actions were something that I was very familiar with by someone whom I had met last summer. I had assumed he was straight which was okay because I do have straight friends. Nonetheless, the friendship evolved into us engaging into sex and this "friend" of mine had always initiated whatever took place between us sexually. Afterwards, he would get very upset the next day and proclaim himself as a straight man and what occurred between us was done of him being drunk. However, unlike Thorpe, this guy is still struggling with his sexuality as well as coming off as being straight. I don't engage in sexual activities with this guy anymore which made him quite upset. Surprisingly, some of his straight buddies who found out that I was a gay man had revealed to me that they always thought he was gay by his actions and they thought I was straight...but they felt he was falling in love with me because they notice the looks he would give me when he thought no one was looking..haha..hopefully, one day..he will also get to that stage of being comfortable with himself as opposed of worrying of what family members may think of him if he did come out as a gay man..

Everybody should decide on its own way how he will come out or not. Being out doesn't mean you are free to do what you want. There are still a lot of issues that should be accepted as normal but isn't. So don't Judge the book by its cover.
