I have had a couple of my previous bfs gifted me with cars. Each time I was grateful for them to even think about doing such a thing for me which made me feel that I must have been considered really special to them. The fact that one bf car was used and the other was brand new didn't matter to me because each one was given from the heart. Therefore, I felt really blessed to have made that kind of impact on someone to want to give me something such as a car. In other words, the young lady needed to count her blessings especially at that age to presented with a car period..just my opinion

Appropos of nothing... a few years ago, for my nephews birthday pressie (he would have been about 12 or 13 at the time), I gave him a gift consisting of a box within a box/within a box/within a box etc .etc. and when he eventually got to the final box there was a pack of batteries and a note ... " Toy not included ".. suffice to say he did not see the joke, but when he next opened the box containing the remote controlled helicopter he mellowed somewhat. .. but it taught me that we have to be mindful of others emotions

She should be glad I'm not her dad, otherwise she'd get one of these...

The Trabant 601...
600cc 2 cylinder, 2 stroke engine...
a whopping 26 Horsepower...
0-60 mph in 20 seconds...
top speed of 65 mph...

After you've proven that you can take care of this, then maybe, just maybe... We can talk about getting you a real car...

But her little tantrum could have been worse...

Gee, I want it.:blushing:

Would be perfect for here.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind having one for myself...

In all fairness, the little Trabbi's got a bad rap...
Sure they are tiny, plastic, underpowered, smoke belching relics of Communist East Germany's past, but the fact is the damn things are almost indestructible, and with only six moving parts in the engine, they are as easy to work on as a lawnmower. In the DDR, you only got one car in a lifetime and many people waited for ten and sometimes even twenty years to get one of these Trabants, so they were built to last a lifetime and then some. In fact, many people got them handed down to them from their parents whom themselves, got them as hand me downs from their own parents.

And I've seen some creative people work marvels with such humble material...

They're a huge collectors item now and have fan clubs. You can even hire them in Berlin to go for a spin .

The only one I've sat in was in a museum over there but reminded me of the old mini 850 which was almost as basic :p

Not surprised hearing about this girl's actions.

After saving for my own car, I was informed to use the family's second car until my high school graduation a year later. A base model 1963 Ford Falcon.
AM radio, stick shift - 3 on tree, no power steering or brakes, no optional equipment except the radio. I was heartbroken and upset with that news.

After I excepted the facts, my friends and I had a blast in that car for the next year ! Nothing broke, because it had nothing ! Even drove it on fire roads cut in the woods, thru deep water, and other dangerous locations.

Saved more money and drove my NEW Oldsmobile to my June Friday night grad night. Sold it 13 years later.

I survived, and bet she will too. :thumbs up:

It must have been nice to live in a time when a high school kid could work part time, attend school full time and still save enough money in a couple of years to buy a nice new car. How many kids do you think can save up the average $20k for a new car today?

I got my mothers old 1975 Chevy van for my first car and was damn glad to have it. It was the full 70's custom job with wood paneling, shag carpet, bed, bar and fridge. While that might sound cool, this was 1987, and at that time anything that was 70's style was decidedly uncool...

But while my friends all thought it was dorky, they all had Camaros, Firebirds, and Mustangs, whenever a bunch of us wanted to go to a concert or a movie or just out cruising, guess who drove...

Of coarse by the time I left high school I had a motorcycle and four other cars including a Pontiac GTO, that old van was still what I drove to school everyday...:)

My folks never gave me a car. I bought one after working in a crummy factory job after school for a year. (Although my Mom let me use her car all the time). The one I bought was a piece of junk but I loved it and was proud of it.
