Act I
My story would be a Disney animated musical. The story: I struggle to come out - eventually have to leave all my previous family and friends and head for Los Angeles. (Cue big production number.) I write for TV. I am learning to be gay. And I know have a crazy work buddies to encourage me along.
The State of California cuts art and music out of school programs. I get some of my friends together to put together a benefit to raise money for art programs. (It in the best "let's put on a show!" tradition of the MGM musicals.) This ticks off the governor who wanted to wipe out art, music, and drama from California schools. (Arnold Schwartznegger, playing himself.)
By chance, Prince Harry of Britain is visiting California and comes to the show because he is involved in a similar project in England. We talk afterward and he makes me see how I can put together an actual program my mixing professionals and educators doing fundraising from the support. He gives me a standing invitation to see the UK arts and education programs in action.
With money raised, we put our drive-by programs by bringing in stars, professionals, (Prince Harry makes a surprise appearance with one of the first teams.) The media love the story - my picture shows up everywhere
Success threaten's the governor's plans so he rolls out a media onslaut for the sole purpose of ruining me and the arts project. I panic at the thought of losing my job, my new friends, and having to start over again. But I can't let my publicity problems hurt the teachers and the kids.
I quietly leave my job, friends, and the program again. With no other ideas, I catch a plane to London to see what I can learn there.
ACT II
I find a cheap place to stay in London and after several days get a meeting with the prince. Harry is appalled at the way I was treated. He takes me around to see some of the work they are doing at schools. They have the steady system and close work with the educators. What they don't have are the stars and big names.
Harry sees what I can add to this, he wants me to stay and add the star connection into their program. And he invites me to stay with him at Kensington Palace. I don't want to be underfoot, but how do you say no to an invitation like that. And truth be told, I'm pretty attracted to him.
I get settled in. He becomes my mentor in all things British. How to eat, how to speak, how to greet people. (Him: Henry Higgens Me: Eliza Doolittle) We also have some fun - riding motorbikes and horses. (This is the big love montage here.)
There is definitely something happening here. I try to be honest and lay my feelings on the line. I want him to have all the information because I don't want to create an scandalous situation for him. I am nearly in tears at the end as I say that the last thing I want is to be a burden to him.
Harry has been silent and stone-faced through this whole monologue.
He takes my face in his hands and kisses me. Nothing else matters. I could melt into the floor right there. I kiss back and... then what. We are outside with the horses. We bring the horses back, he hands them over to the stable boys, and then goes in to change for dinner.
I am left dumbfounded. What is this? What have I gotten myself into. As I walk back to the house what I don't realize is that one of the stable boys has watched the whole scene. He picks up his mobile and dials - we see the entry on the phone screen "News of the World".
"I got sumpin for ya. But it;s really gonna cost this time"
How does it end?? You'll have to buy a ticket and find out.
So who should I cast to do the vocal acting?
