I'm having trouble opening some media

Hello everyone,

Whilst digging through the downloadable content on GH, I've found some clips that won't open properly.

They download them just fine, but when I try to open them - I use Windows Media Player - I get an error message that says the file has an extension that is not recognized. I've noticed that the extensions are always something weird like ".z06" or ".003"

Some of them have the ".avi" extension before the unrecognized one, but my WMP plays regular .avi files without any problems.

I really wanted to watch this one, can some one help me figure out why it isn't playing?

Large files are usually split into multiple parts to make them easy to download. Before you can view them, you have to reassemble the parts back into a whole video. See this sticky in the tutorials section:

Joining files with HJSplit or WinRAR

The files that end in .01, .02, .03, etc are split with HJSplit. The files that end in .rar are split with WinRAR.

Alrighty, the files all joined nicely and it runs fine!

But I'm having problems with another set of split files. They have the extensions .z01 through .z04. WinRAR won't extract them and HJSplit won't join them! Is there another program I need to use for these?

Whenever you see files with extensions .z01, z02 there should also be a file with the extension .zip in there as well... Try selecting the .zip file with Winrar and then try unpacking.

Yup, that did the trick. Thank you Gypsy! I'd never had to use that part of the download so I didn't know what it was for.
