My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to any forum members directly or indirectly affected by the numerous natural disasters that hit Indonesia, Philippines and the American Samoa areas the last few days. Such devastation is so sad to see and it breaks my heart to see so much death and suffering at the hands of mother nature.

My condolences to all those grieving families and my hope for a speedy recovery in those affected areas. And I truly hope that the newest storm expected to hit the Philippines soon shows some compassion.

Well put Goe..I second those remarks. Man may know a few things about destructive forces but Mother Nature can turn it on too...I heard a witness saying today that from the first tremors being felt underfoot, followed by the waters advancing, destroying and departing... to all being calm and the birds singing again in the trees, if any were left, was only 20 minutes.

Nicely put, I can't add anything really, but the power of nature is sometimes awesome & frightening. We should feel lucky if we live in nice temperate climates and nowhere near these extremes.

Sadly I fear we will get more & more disasters as the temperatures start to rise.

Well I was on a beach in India on Boxing Day 2004..all we noted, thankfully, was higher/rougher seas than usual..turns out we had only experiencd the " backwash" of the tsunamis as the high waters had spread out ...as we were holidaying we didn't even hear about the tragedy 'til 2 days afterwards...

Iraq is also drying up, no rain for a long time. The river is just reducing and reducing.
