I have a film file which comes with 2 other files one of which contains the sub-titles.When all are present by dragging the file to my VLC player it plays with subs.So far so good.My AVI converted files(if necessary)then play in my Blu-ray player.Although I burn all the files the subs do not stick to the film. They will play on computer but not on player.Does anyone have an answer to this?
Many thanks in advance.

Hello, wintertime!

In which format do you have the subtitels? Does your BR-player supports it (please have a look to the description of the player)? Stand-alone-player (BR or DVD) are sometimes a bit "picky" with such things. :)

I use a media player but I suppose the same will apply. The subtitle file must be named identically to the movie file except for the extension.

I think what Lamicheval meant was what file extension is used on your subtitle files and does your player support that extension.

Subs

Thanks a lot for your imput. That is obviously right that the players are not recognizing the files with subs. There seem so many types. One file is subs the other idx.I have no idea what the sub file is.If the film files were all in a list and as usual I unzip from the rar file I think it would have worked by putting the sub files in with the rest before extracting. But this file did not need extracting as it was already done so insertion was not an option.

*IDX is an indexfile and *SUB stands for the subtitlefile. You need both on the same place (named correctly, like "squiggle" already told) to play the movie without problems e.g. with VLC-player or some other softwareplayers on the PC.

Your Standalone BR-player normally can not understand that fileformat (I think it depends on the model). This players mostly needs another fileformat and another structure on the BR to play them in the movie. So you have to reformat the files with some software to play it correctly on your Standalone BR-player (it needs time and is sometimes not that easy), or simply play them on the PC with one of your softwareplayers.

Some DVD-players understand the fileformat *SUB too, so you could burn the files to a DVD and play it on your Standalone DVD-player as an alternative, if you don't like to watch movies on your PC. :)
