I'm curious as to what internet speeds are in different parts of the world, as well as what types of connections are available.

Here in Southern Indiana USA, I have a 200mbs cable connection, which I'm told is ridiculously fast...

Ah, all you guys seems to have such superfast connections...

I don't have cable but an old fashioned ADSL connection, and I think it's 15 mbs or something like that X_XX_X

I guess my comfort is that my mind is still pretty fast :D

Im on BT Infinity 2 (VDSL 2). So a "up to" 80Mbs connection and I actually conect at that speed. It has a 20Mbs upload speed which really helps with my uploading of files.

What used to take an hour for one file now take less than 4 mins :)

I had 250Mb/s, but I realised I never came close to using it all, so I switched to a cheaper package that "only" gives me 100Mb/s.

Heart of Zürich (CH) here. I have a 1Gbit/s symmetrical fiber connection, pretty useless and too expensive for my tastes.

May I ask you how much do you pay for internet each month?

This is a very interesting question. I'm here not the person who is asked for - but I have to pay for internet/telephone per month € 61,00.

I use Telstra Broadband Ultimate Cable (Bundle) with 700GB Data

Here is the speed test i done with 2 different test sites

I think the connection i have is horrible (Especially when i'm downloading) as i should be getting 100mbps or something, No wonder why there was an article i read this week mentioned about how horrible my countries internet is which is a disgrace:( > http://nullrefer.com/?http://www.li...ian-internet-speeds-are-terrible-infographic/

Hopefully when the NBN comes to my area it might improve my connection speed with both downloads and uploads.

I like symmetrical! :D

The question how useful a connection is is a good one. I pay 30 € for internet and telephone. I dl with 1.1 mb and upload with 100 kb (or so), I don't care too much for numbers.

My provider calls me once a month to tell me that my connection is not fast enough and for just 10 or 20 € more I would get sooo much more.

I always ask why I would need that. I do youtube, I dl stuff etc. I don't really need multiple streams. And without subscriptions xy-gator still only offers 30 kb/s or something like that.

Wow - here in DC I am paying Comcast Xfinity for what's supposed to be 120MBps but I never get more than 30, and usually less than 20. All for $160/month. This is what monopoly gets you.

€55 per month for my 100Mb/s down and 25Mb/s up plus basic phone service. The only reason I have a phone service is because it's cheaper to get internet with a phone service than just internet.

I have Virgin Media 70Mb/s, get about 74Mb/s, I'm in SE London. Pay £33 a month (no telephone or line rental)

It is actually too fast for what I need but they keep upgrading it 'for free', so currently costing the same as the 50Mb/s

Umm... I pay $210 a month, but that's 200mbs internet, unlimited long distance phone, digital cable, HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, and equipment rental (modem, DVR, router).
