Is Equality A Myth?

I am not referring to Equal Rights under the law. That is something we can legislate and expect. I'm talking about quantitative and qualitative equality of physical attributes among humans. Intelligence, beauty and strength all differ with the individual.

We see evidence that equality is a myth everyday. We see people we perceive as more intelligent and less intelligent than ourselves. We see people we perceive as more attractive and less attractive than ourselves. We see people we perceive as stronger and weaker than ourselves.

As Gay men we see men we want to lick, suck and fuck right there on the spot everyday as well as men we wouldn't touch sexually no matter what. As Gay men we don't perceive women as potential sex partners at all. Then you have Str8 people who do the same as us only with the opposite sex. Bi-Sexual people must spend all their time everyday drooling over men and women they find attractive but also reject a large number of unattractive people.

Not everyone is smart enough to understand quantum physics. I would never claim to understand it in the way as Stephen Hawking does. But everyone can develop their intellect to it's optimum potential.

Not everyone is as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as others. I'm not going to be every Gay man's fantasy fuck. But I can do my best to reach my optimum potential to be attractive. I did pretty well at it too. My partner and I met many decades ago when we were younger and we were both attracted to each other on the spot. I am happy we did :)

Not everyone has a body that is genetically predisposed to be as physically strong as some other peoples' bodies. But they can develop their strength to their bodies optimum potential.

Everyone has different ideas about who is beautiful and attractive, who has the right level of intelligence for us and who has the physical strength we desire. We cannot and should not try legislate these things.

So in my humble opinion Equality Is A Myth so stop crying about it and do something to improve your intelligence, beauty and strength.

My opinion is flexible and may change when presented with proper arguments.

I hope some others will join this discussion. I look forward to it.

I don't know if I'm right or if I have understood your question correct - but equality in the form you are telling from isn't exsisting. No man or woman will ever be equal - every person, man or wife is different (and I don't mean the difference between man or woman).

When I see another man and I find him very attractive and lovable, it doesn't mean that you will see him with your eyes as well as I do. So what equality?

I know persons I can't stand and my BF didn't understand me, because he likes them.

Do you mean envy? Envy that he or her is much nicer than myself, or much wiser, or stronger? If that should be the feeling a person has towards another person (if man or woman) he needs help because he has no self-confidence.

Surely there will be persons out there which will be nicer, wiser and/or stronger than myself - but why I should be envy? I can admire them for these attributes and if I want I can try to be equal to them.

That would be a little bit difficult with Beauty -:) . But what is beauty? Beauty always is in the eye of the beholder.

Fashion models are chosen to help sell clothing. Their 'beauty' is what makes them desirable. We only see their physical form. If we get to know them that 'beauty' may be only skin deep. On the inside they may not be so beautiful to us. They may be very hollow, shallow, arrogant, deceitful, mean, nasty or some other negative thing.

I think some people want to replace those 'beautiful' models with less attractive. less sexually desirable models so as not to offend the general public in some way. Obesity is rampant in America and other places. Plus size women and average looking guys are never going to be as beautiful on the outside as models whose bodies are thin and whose faces have the classic beauty that makes me want smile with pleasure.

What has happened in America seems like the lunatics are taking over the asylum. You can not make people equal with laws or political correctness. It just isn't possible. You can force people to pretend or risk being labeled as this or that (I will not use the words I'm thinking for fear of being labeled as one or the other).

Equality is a myth. That is my point :)

Equal Rights under the law is what we should expect.

Equality is about treatment not attributes!

An equal society is not one where everyone has the same intelligence, height, weight, beauty etc.. It is one where everyone has the same opportunities, and where the law treats everyone the same.

A society of equal treatment is a utopian ideal we should always strive for but will never quite achieve.

A society where everyone is the same sounds like hell on earth!

Exactly gb! That is exactly what I said ;) Twice! lol

I started this thread after reading someone's comment in the "Underbelly of the Fashion World" thread here:

http://gayheaven.org/showpost.php?p=1872804&postcount=8

Equal Rights under the law is how society should be. Equality of attributes is not possible.

There are so many differences between men and women not to mention people from other cultures.

Oh yes - see the communist world, where every man, every woman should be equal................. It was/is really the hell on earth because too there are some more equal than the other.

What you describe is not communism! Communism is not about everyone being the same, in fact, the one-line definition is all about differences:

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need"

That is true communism, and it's all about recognising that everyone is different.

The dictators of the mid to late 20th century may have CALLED themselves communist, but they weren't. Stalin and his ilk bastardised communism in the same way ISIS bastardise Islam, and the Westbro baptist church bastardise Christianity.

Actual communism has never been tried, but you are right that the dictators who have stolen that word have indeed created hell on earth in its name :(

Sniffit says
"My opinion is flexible and may change when presented with proper arguments."
Well yes indeed, very good and who can disagree with that motto?
Some do. In politics, changing your opinion when the facts change is called flip flopping. That's an ignorant criticism. The alternative is to not change your mind when the situation changes. In a pig headed polititian like Mrs Thatcher that was called being steadfast and it's meant to be a virtue.
People who will not change when faced with reality become bigots, there are left wing bigots as well as right wing ones.
Sorry sniff for that diversion from the topic but I had to get that out of the way first.

Equality 0=0

I think that the two basic principles of nature are homogeneity and heterogeneity: one cannot exist without the other. Our very mental as well as physical existence or the existence of life in all of its generality is based on the flow of energy and for that we need two things: a difference in energy densities (the heterogeneity) and a constant drive towards homogeneity.

Being the very products of this very nature I thus allow myself to infer that we can never be homogenous both physically and more importantly mentally - nature doesn't allow us to be created that way. But then again we will have something - an inherent drive towards homogeneity.

Think of the very basic human emotions : love, hate, revenge, fear --
each one of these emotions stem from a drive towards homogeneity:
You love because you are driven by a sense of oneness (homogeneity)
You hate because you cannot build up a sense of oneness (which shows your demand for oneness)
You extract revenge because you want the person on whom you want your revenge, to suffer the way that you have suffered (again a homogeneity drive)
You fear an event because you don't know about that particular state that the event will bring upon you (a typical heterogeneity averse reaction).

So what am I getting at? I think that nature will continue to make us different at all time but at the same time imbue a strong drive towards equality that is something that we can't do anything about. :big hug:
