Comments like "gay actors can't convincingly play straight roles" are always laughable!
Many of the big names of Hollywood in the past were gay, Rock Hudson being a good case in point !
....and what about "straight" actors playing gay roles?? It's all acting, and not every gay person is camp and not every straight person is butch!

Sometimes I stumble upon threads and posts that make me really mad:angry::angry::angry: because of their sheer stupidity and blockheaded prejudice, and I´m afraid this thread and its framing question is a good (= bad) example.
It´s quite possible that Ricky Martin can´t do Che on stage
if he´s a week actor.
The following questions aren´t looking for answers. They´re illustrations of stupidity.
1) Surely John Gielgud, Montgomery Clift and Sir Ian McKellen were/is much too gay to be any good at acting ?
2) Surely Ludwig Wittgenstein and Michel Foucault were much to gay to be important philosophers?
3) Surely Marcel Proust was much to gay to write good french ?
4) Surely Alan Turing was much to gay to have any importance as a mathematician and computer scientist ?
