is "this site is not secure" normal?

my browser was very upset with me for coming to this site and clicking to login but I don't remember if I saw that when I first visited the site many months ago and signed up, or if that's new with more 'security-minded' browser release or the action of the ad-blocker or https-desiring plug-ins. Does that seem normal to everyone? (FF62/MacOS)

Yes, the site not secure is normal. I use Chrome in Windows 10 and right on my URL line, way over to the right is a little "i" with a circle around it and the words "Not secure" right next to it. When I click the little "i" it just gives me a warning not to enter any sensitive information, like passwords or credit cards, because it could easily be stolen by attackers. So I would say that as long as you don't put any super personal information in your posts, you should be fine. But if you want any more information on the security of the site I'd send a DM to one of the admins.

As far as I know the only general meaning it has is that a "not secure" site (like Gay Heaven") has a full URL address beginning with "http://www...", while a secure site has a full URL beginning "https://www..."

I've been a GH member for almost 8 years, and as far as I know I've never had any problem with the GH site just because it has a "not secure" address. URL:s beginning with "http://www..." is still quite common.

This site does not need a high level of security because there is nothing here for hackers to steal. All the porn is held on external sites and GH does not collect private information from it's members. So nothing to worry about. Worry instead about places like google and itunes which, although apparently secure, collect vast amounts of data about their visitors. I'd feel far safer here than there.

The fact that this community, like every other forum in the world, collects emails and passwords is a cause for concern enough. It's one thing if this was a static website with no login information, but this community still collects personal information. It's a standard web practice to deploy HTTPS for the safety of users.
