Russell T Davies is a fan of artist Oliver Frey, so am I. Oliver drew a comic series called 'The Street' in the early eighties, RTD used this strip as inspiration for the early stages of his hit tv show 'It's A Sin'
Gay comics are usualy fantasy, this one is a harshly realistic story of the perils of moving to the big bad city in the hope of starting a new life. The tv show did not go as far as the comic with it's hallucinogenics and self harm, that might be pushing it too far for a mainstream audience, but I hope you can see how the cartoonists ability to cram a lot of ideas into a small space has helped the tv writer to do the same thing, he had a lot of ground to cover in only a few episodes.
The toon was published over nine months in the gay advertorial mag 'Him' Here is part one.
Part two coming soon.
