Good grief guys, it is possible to agree to differ. There is no harm in maintaining different opinions. If we all agreed on everything, the world would be a thoroughly boring place.

Anyway, there are too many people in this world who never get the opportunity to fall in love because of lots of things more important than this thread. There are youngsters dying of malnutrition, starvation, or as victims of terrorism, oppression or natural disasters. Life is full of disasters.

There are worse things than arguments over the age of consent. So come on guys...kiss and make up! :-* :hug: :applause:

I concede any point that is logical or has merit. I can appreciate the risks and whatever as I've mentioned before. But I'm not going to waste my time arguing the toss over something when every time I present an idea I get a flat 'no' rather than any form of open-minded conversation/discussion. It's pointless, fruitless and a waste of time. That's why I'm leaving it here.

Existence of porn is not a cause for over-exposing children to it. But irresponsible parenting is. So better parenting and family filters are a solution to this problem.

Adult entertainment is just a fantasy same as horror, science fiction, action movies, drama and so on.

If I understand you guys right you're saying that you believe that raising the age limit would prevent young people to view porn and lowering the age limit would kind of force them to view porn - which in my opinion is completely illogical reasoning. I believe this is the main point where we disagree.

What I was saying was that age labeling would have no impact on youth whatsoever. Or most probably exactly the opposite. Because nobody really cares about labels and because I don't believe the law has actual power to prevent or allow youth to see anything. It is illogical to claim that because of the law some kids won't be interested in certain things anymore or that their interests would be postponed to a later time. (???) What you believe is in state's power I say is in parents' power. And parents again don't need the law to know how to raise their kids.

I never said "let's lower the age limit so the kids would watch porn peacefully". :no: What I said was: age limits (set by the law) have no impact! At least not the wanted one. (Mature) parenting has.

I even went a step further by claiming that lowering the age limit would actually have a certain impact: namely decreasing young people's interest in porn according to the saying "No forbidden fruit no temptation". Which means that raising the age limit would actually increase their interest for porn.

Do you think young people drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes because they're allowed? No. Because they're forbidden for them.

Porn should be left at 18 to perform in. In a consensual situation or educational 16+ should be allowed to watch.
Nudity in a non porn sense should be 17. Like a young actor performing in a play or a photoshoot for modelling.

Age of Concent

What do I think the age of consent should be? Well, for the survey I put 16/16. But I really think it is when they person involved in making the decision is capable of understanding his action. That means that a person could be younger than 16, or older than 16. I know some adults that are clueless about things, and younger guys who know what they are talking about. Age of consent for anything shouldn't be a line in the sand.

If a person is fully educated in sex, then they should be allowed to do it. If a person is fully educated about drinking, then they should be allowed to do it. Same with smoking.

And this is the part that has made a few of my friends mad. It is human nature if you think about it to have sex, or at least start thinking about it, at an early age. I once read (and I think I have a post on it on my homepage) that men are at their sexual peak in their 20's. And if we weren't supposed to be having sex early we wouldn't be able to then.
