This one might get a bit personal for you guys, so you feel free to share whatever facet you choose to; no one is forcing you... whatever you want to open up with, go right ahead...

Every year as we count down to the new one just ahead of us, a lot of us look back at the year we've just gone through and relive its up and down's. Some of them are great... but not always. A lot of them are saddening, angering, depressing... things that we have to go through to make us stronger as a human being, but things we would never wish upon another soul.

So, what are you looking forward to leaving behind in 2009? What do you choose to leave in this last year of the "zeroes"?

For me, it would have to be all of the deaths I've witnessed. Not just celebrity deaths (although some of those are still truly saddening... we still miss you, Michael :( ); but both physical and emotional ones.

I've lost some close people in my life who watched me grow up into the man I am today.

I watched an almost 14-year friendship end with someone I finally had to realize wasn't much of a friend at all. The things she said and did toward me were truly painful and I still don't know how I got through that... but I did and I'm ever grateful.

I've had certain hopes die only to gain new perspectives and dreams; but the journey to get to that point nearly got the best of me.

So, as I look forward to 2010; my 29th year on this planet Earth, I pledge to myself to make it the best one ever; to be the best person I can be. To love unconditionally, to let hate roll off my back; to stand tall; to emote and feel without restraint. I move onward to 2010 on a quest to be me against all odds... and enjoy every single moment I can doing so.

So, what about you guys?

Same for me, just replace 14 with 8 and she with he. I think it's far more healthier to just let him go than to cling on hopelessly. Although we just "drifted" apart, we really never spoke anything lately.

For my friend, we spoke just about every week; it just started to spin out of control over this past year and I began to realize all of the horrible things she and her family had tried to inflict on me... including certain racial jokes they found funny, but I found anything but. Talk about "best friends", huh?

Either way, I'm sorry to hear that you too had to go through that, but it does help to make you all the more stronger and find a true friend who will always be in your corner. :)

This is one of the aspects I hate about "New Year".

To me it's just a date on our calendar, it's no different than February 20th or Septmeber 15th to me! Too much looking back and too much thinking everything will be different because a digit changes.

Nothing changes unless you make it, and you don't need a date to say look back at how bad it was. If yesterday was bad and you're OK today then get on with today.

I never look back, I hate old photos, the images are in my head anyway. Today is today and it makes no difference whatr the date is.

Having said that, I do understand that we need landmarks and a new year a new decade is one -

So I wish everyone everything I'd wish you everyday - peace, health and happiness ! :D xxx

well said, as for a new years resolution i'd like a new friend or partner that I can be completely honest with w/o fear of being judged. Im not sure that really counts....that and also to get by self in the gym and stop crushing on str8 boys i'll never be able to get with :(.

I can understand the disdain for a big celebration of a "New Year", but I truly do believe it's something to be celebrated... we've been through so much for 365 days and we're still kicking, still loving, still living... it's more than just a new year on the calendar; it's a new year in your life, which is why I've always held it so close to me. ESPECIALLY when I've had a year like the one I've had (I'm not knocking anyone else's; everyone's life is no greater, sadder or has more worth than my own or vice versa). I'm well aware of what I have been through in the past and there were times where I thought I would lose it all and lose myself in the process...

... and I haven't. I'm still here. I'm still standing (no Elton jokes! LOL). I'm stil me... and I'm going to be better than I ever have.

I agree with you, XMan; everyday should be celebrated and the same wishes one puts on us on December 31st should be lived through and fulfilled on every other normal day... but even you can understand how powerful and meaningful that one has survived another 365 days on this Earth can be. :)

And it goes without saying: loads of the best for you and your loved ones, XMan.
