Does anyone else get as annoyedas I do at these two channels because of their skittishness about nudity and "naughty" words? I am try to watch "The Inbetweeners" but there are so many bleeps it's hard to follow the dialogue.

I have pretty much given up trying to watch any movie with even a minor amount of nudity and/or adult language on LOGO or BBCA.

I have emailed both networks asking if they plan to start treating their viewers as rational adults any time soon. I don't expect to receive a reply from either one.

I watched Boy Culture on Logo again last night for about the tenth time. I guess if it's not HBO or Showtime, they can't say fuck 'n shit. You have to pay extra to hear those words. On BBCA, I usually only watch Doctor Who, which is on hiatus until September. I watch many UK shows on downloads, and you get the full curse words. I just finished 3rd season Shameless and am watching Brittania High. On Shameless, they have a character with Tourette's who does a lot of cursing.

The problem is not with the networks themselves, but those who advertise or otherwise financially support them. All it takes is one very upset viewer (poor baby wah wah wah) who starts a letter-writing campaign to government (or sponsors), and there can be big trouble for any network or channel. Since HBO and similar private program distributors charge money and are subscription services, the issue becomes one of a viewer CHOOSING to watch and knowingly making that choice - so complaints regarding obscenity and content aren't valid. Same with ordering a DVD - if you request it you are deemed to know what you are asking for, and cannot pitch a bitch about language or subject matter.

BBC in the UK has much less qualms about such things than any US channel I've ever seen other than HBO. I think that might be why HBO and BBC work together on so many things. I think BBCA is responding to American culture. Just look at the apocalyptic panic over a nipple popping out for a second at the superbowl. The problem is not with the networks, it's with very loud and very vocal 'holier than thou' crowd you have filling up your churches and buying your politicians.

Indeed. It was perhaps Mark Twain or some other political wit who quipped that, "America has the best politicians that money can buy!";)

UK tv has always been very relaxed about such things. Even in the days when we had the most stringent anti porn laws the tv was very liberal.

Certain time periods will have such things censored but in the adult time it's generally not, and that includes male nudity which has never been shied away from either on mainstream tv ;)

That show I think runs in reruns on BBC as well as LOGO

I have to agree that I am not a big fan of LOGO. It happens that when I make an attempt to watch a movie on that channel, but I get very annoyed with the way the beep out words or if by chance the do decide to show nudity, they would put a blur on the actor's bodies. Therefore, I usually wind up buying the video or downloading it. I just feel that by this being a gay channel, they should quite aware of what gay people like to see as well as being comfortable with the profanity or suggestive language because we are adults and what we see or hear is nothing new or anything appalling. However, I have to say that the BBC is much more acceptable than the U.S.

Does BBC America have the UK version of Apprentice? I am so OBSESSED with it right now. Can we order BBC if we don't have a cable subscription or is that a pre-requisite? Thanks :D

This is why I like watching the original version of things. If something comes on basic television or cable (like LOGO), I'll watch it for the nostalgic feel of it all (I still love "Noah's Arc"), but it's just much better in it's original or unedited forms. I think your best bet is to somehow obtain the original version/DVD/DVD-rips of certain movies or television shows and you'll be much happier.

Look what happened to the Americanized version of "Skins"; it was so bad and got so much flack for attempting to be like the original UK version that it was universally panned and canceled after one season.

I've only seen one broadcast by LOGO. An item of interest from the year 2005, it was pretty good and have it saved here on the hard drive. Never seen anything else put out by LOGO though.

I suppose that different regions may have different arrangements. My cable provider includes BBC in the channel package I already take, no further costs associated with it. Never checked out their website, perhaps they have a membership system for direct downloads or streaming.

The only way LOGO and BBCA will become less prudish is if the viewers put pressure on them. The FCC has been less prudish under Obama than under Bush but not by much. The bad news is that SCOTUS, the Supreme Court of the U. S., is due to review a case about broadcasting standards some time soon. The five mullahs, Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, Alito (aka Scalito) and the not very swinging Kennedy have not been very strong supporters of free speech unless you are a rich corporation. I hope they'll surprise me but am not holding my breath

Aren't media corporations large rich corporations? I'd expect the sham of a court to go their way on what ever comes up TBH.

How do you know a court is utterly sick and totally political? Answer, if every vote is down political lines! That's all you hear 5-4, 5-4, 5-4 :(

Then you have justice Thomas utterly ignoring the rules lower judges have to abide by and making a mockery of the very concept of justice and impartiality. It makes me sick that a nation with such a shambles of a legal system can feel self-righeous enough to self-appoint themselves police men of the world, and consider themselves qualified to spread democracy and justice around the world.

:(
