So Sorry

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. In October my beloved friend Timmy - A Shepard, husky mix had to be put to sleep. He was almost 17! He was great but had developed dementia in the last six months of life. Reading this thread brought back the memories of him and when I got home from work I looked for him in his usual spot - the top of the stairs, waiting for me...
I really miss him and I understand how you feel.

I truly believe that the pets who choose us -- we don't choose them, kind of like wands in Harry Potter -- come into our lives to teach us to be better humans. I believe it is the last stage of physical life before transitioning to a spiritual one. Call it reincarnation, "soul recycling," whatever you like.

To everyone here who has shared a pet story, I can empathize with each. It is a tough thing to go through. I refer to both of my cats as "son"...even my parents refer to them as their "grandcats!"

I love animals. There was a moment that I had three dogs, three cats, ten chickens, four geese and three horses. Now there are only one dog, a cat, one chicken and two horses left. Each time it felt as if I lost a friend. A terrible pain. I buried them all in my garden (that's against the law in The Netherlands). In my mind they are still alive. I feel sorry for you.

Hi Tjerk, how big is your garden that you burried a horse (?) there? Sorry sick joke :)

Yes such a stupid law you can not burry your pets where you want on your private land...

The law say: bring small pets/animals to a vet or an animal graveyard/animal crematorium, bigger pets/animals have to be collected by an "animal distruction company" to prevent desases to break out (...).

But... so many people break that law (so did I when I burried my cat in my garden, not to mention where I burried my rabbit hehehe...) that it is impossible to have them all fined :)

@brmstn69 I read this thread too late, but I still liked to reply because I really know how you felt because I have lost a pet too, who kinda died on my hands. It was one of the saddest days in my life.

The cats and dogs I've had throughout my life have given me great joy. Losing them reminds me of how much they've given me while sharing my life. My advice is to get a kitten and keep on loving.
