I'm not one to brag but you know your family loves you when most of your presents consists of multiple $20 bills. :x

Adding to the money I save up (for when I wanna do things like go out with my cousin or brother, if I wanted to), I got so much mucho dinero I can get a webcam, a case of blank CDs, a CD case, two magazines, two albums and STILL have money. :))

This song kinda describes my Christmas presents:

:p

You should save some of it. It's always nice to have some tucked away for a rainy day. ;)

Boo-boo, you know I will, I already saved a lot of it lol

I sometimes have shopping sprees but not all the time. :p

^^ Cool. :) I never even ask for money. I usually get some good money for my allowance lol.

So I was pleasantly surprised. :)

My mom used to give me money for Xmas instead of gifts! But in that period I wanted gifts and not money! Now, when I have to pay bills and maintain myself, I would want money for Xmas..but no one gives anythings nowadays! So no presents and no money!:) Lucky you Jamaal!:)

^^ At this point I could care less about "presents". I'm not as braggadocious (sp?) as I used to be like "I want that or I want this". I'm thankful 4 what I got, ya dig? So yeah u can call it luck because I wasn't expecting it. lol And I can understand why when the economy is the way it is. I'm thankful 4 any gift I got. It ain't just the receiving it's the giving too. :)

I have to admit, I'm very glad we don't do the gift giving anymore.
It's taken many years, but now we just buy for the nieces and nephews.
Which I have a hard enough time doing, and always end up having some one
do that shopping for me, cause I suck and that sort of thing!!!

Me too, Tom. Fortunately my family & friends long since agreed not to waste time finding presents for each other, easier to buy something for yourself , something you actually want! I know it doesn't sound as romantic or fun but there's nothing fun battling crowds to spend money on something for someone that you don't even know if they really need it just because of a date on a calendar.

As Mr. Spock might have said "Highly illogical Captain! " :p

Christmas always serves as a reminder that I'm the black sheep. While several of them chipped in and got my mother a used computer (which they gave to her at Thanksgiving as an early present) to replace the 15 yo Dell that went out, and then a couple of cards with about $60 total. I got 2 cards, one with $20, and one with a $10 gas card, which in my car might just get me around the block, lol. I don't mean to sound petty, but it's pretty disappointing when you watch them all open lap tops, Wii's, and video cameras and you just get a card.

Man, that sucks. I feel sorry for you.
I can somewhat sympathize with you. For many years I just never
showed up for Christmas with my family, the nieces and nephews always wanted to know why I wasn't there, since I was their favorite the rest of the year. It's only the last couple that
I've joined again, only because it's not the buy, buy buy crap that my oldest
sister always shoved down our throats, and since she's to far away to come now, I go.

It's really tough for you now, but it will get better!

It's not so much not getting nice, expensive things that bothers me, it's just that taking time to pick a present, even a cheap one, shows some thought for that person. Stuffing money into a generic card is like you were just an afterthought...

Thats a really interesting point brm! I used to go to EXTREME lengths to find a gift that fit the person I was giving it too - and many times it was pretty inexpensive but I was operating under the old adage "it's the thought that counts!"

These days - it IS easier for lazy people to go out and get a gift card. It most certainly is less personal but it does give you more freedom - even if that freedom is just the practicality of a free or discounted tank of gas...it's just the age we live in!:-*

I think that was the idea, Glam :p

Money and gift vouchers are very impersonal, although for me money is the perfect gift otherwise I end up with something totally useless! Having said that I've stopped all the swapping presents stuff at Christmas anyway. I don't think I've usually had anything worthwhile from anyone the last few times we did.

See if I had a patio I'd be happy with some chairs too :p So we're getting old together :)) Fortunately I don't so I can spend mine on something totally indulgent !

To answer your question - I love old TV series from the 60's & 70's . It's not simply nostalgia because I often get something I don't remember seeing or sometimes even remember at all. I find the writing, the storylines and the whole quality of these to be far superior than most that's produced these days. When did we last have something as perfect as the BBC's "Secret Army" ?? The one I bought recently was from the same era but ITV (London Weekend TV) called "Enemy at the Door" and a similar-ish wartime theme. Judging from the first 3 episodes I've watched it's quite excellent!

Digression over :p
