None of my thoughts in posting this were to be of a political standpoint. In truth, I don't speak politics because a) it's not my strong suit and b) I know that everyone has very different views on politics, so I keep mine to myself. I only wanted to express my feelings about what happened; not who may have been involved or how many have bashed those who were nowhere near involved.

I have witnessed and read many horrible comments, thoughts and hatred spewed from so many and I would never want to instigate that in any way, shape or form. I said what I wanted to say and it came from a place in my heart that I thought many others have shared. What was said after that from other members here was exactly what I was trying to avoid. I never implied that someone couldn't express their opinion based on their political views, no matter how they may differ from anyone else's... but considering the basis of this thread was in the hopes of moving on from something so tragic, it's odd to see it take the turn that it did.

That was my main point; nothing else. I'm glad that others got my original stance and that's where I'm staying. I think this will be my last visit to this thread and once again, I apologize if anyone was accidentally offended; that's not the person I am.

You speak politics very well actually :) You sounded like a "true American patriot". I don't know if that was your intention. I referred to xman101's comment with the last lines of my comment. It's very difficult to express thoughts of a subject this political without being political, unless it's really just condolences or something like that, because 9/11 is one of the most political issues in the world at the moment. I thought ritsuka, if we speak of his comment, was respectful to the victims and their close ones, but rejected the way their tragedy has been used to fuel political purposes that have caused more grief than the original act. That is really where the subject gets so tricky... it's been 10 years and a lot has been done during that time, even if not counting the huge amount of history leading to it.

I'm sorry that it didn't work out the way you meant it, Jonny. Sometimes that happens, and it's not your fault nor it is really anyone's. We're all people with our own backgrounds and stances from where we look at things.

It's very difficult to express thoughts of a subject this political without being political, ..., because 9/11 is one of the most political issues in the world at the moment.

Exactly - politics is not about parties or people, but about how people see the world. Inevitably, people of different politics will see major world events differently, and what ever your opinion on 9-11 is, one thing's for sure, it's a major world event!

It's an event which everone agrees has a tragedy at it's core but some see it as a tragedy with tragedies layered on top, while others see it as a tragedy with fear layered on top, and perhaps some a tragedy with opportunity, or perhaps honour layered on top.

Does 9-11 mean we should engage the Muslim world to try to make the world fairer and kill the recruitment of extremists?

Does 9-11 mean we should hunt and destroy no matter what the cost?

Does 9-11 mean we need to take revenge?

Does 9-11 mean we need to fight a war against Islam?

Does 9-11 mean we need to roll back civil liberties and rights in exchange for security?

Everyone will have their own answers to those questions, and everyone will see the commemorations on the 10th anniversary, and the 10 years that have passed since, through the prism of those opinions and feelings.

I think it's inevitable that any thread about 9-11 will diverge from your particular political view, because there are lots of opinions out there.

B.
