I'm sure anyone here in the Atlanta area will know what I'm talking about. Last night, roads were quite shitty. Hell, less than a week after getting it, I spun out my pretty little Avalon. While the car remained okay and didn't hit anything, I decided to pull over after regaining control to check the exterior and the second I put my foot outside the door, I slipped and busted my bum. I'm glad that's the worst for me. This morning, I saw abandoned cars in various stages of damage all over the place and I also saw some road signs were mowed down.

FWIW, all but one of the abandoned/wrecked motorcars I saw were SUVs; I suppose with all that extra weight plus not being used to ice is a bad combination. The non-SUV I saw was a pretty, blue recent model Lincoln Towncar which I'm sure was previously being driven by some terrified poor old lady.

I suppose my point here is to practice driving in conditions that aren't so nice and realize that sometimes, that brake pedal is not your friend.

In Atlanta, many people do not get many chances to practice driving in the snow and have no idea how to do it. On top of that, many in those big SUV's think that just because they have all wheel drive or four wheel drive, that they can handle any driving conditions and don't realize that it only helps with traction and doesn't do shit to help keep them from sliding.

I drove from Toronto to join by brother in Chicago for Christmas once and a great majority of vehicles I saw in the ditch and balancing on median ramps were SUVs. Brmstn69 is right plus an SUV with city tires is as bad in snow as any other vehicle with city tires. In Vancouver which does not get as much ice and snow as the rest of Canada, people actually forget how to drive on slippery road from one snow fall to the next.
