How come so many of the films I download from this section (gay themed movies) claim to have subtitles but then don't seem to have them when I actually play them (on my TV or in a player like VLC or quicktime player)? One example would be "About Us" recently posted.

It's not just this thread or this film but seems to happen almost half the time when I encounter films that "have subtitles."

Does anyone else have this problem or any ideas as to the reason?

Thank you.

Copy your subtitle file in the same directory of your movie file. Make sure both the subtitle file and the movie file have the same name. Then play the movie with Media Player Classic and it should automatically show the subtitles.

Yes, thank you for responding. I'm familiar with the separate '.srt" file thing, but I'm referring to films that supposedly have the subs embedded (NOT HARDCODED) into the movie. These films usually let you toggle the subs off and on.

The film I mentioned above, for example "About Us" and many more like it don't contain any separate ".srt" or ".sub" file. That's why I find this problem hard to understand.

If you have downloaded the film, use the FREEMAKE VIDEO CONVERTER. Take the film into the converter than you will find there a tab called "without subtitles". Click on this tab and you will find the (mostly) English subtitles. Click again on the subtitles and start the Converter. If he is ready you will have your film with newly hardcoded subtitles.

Sorry that I'm not the real technician for a better explaining. But I hope you will have understand.

Thank you. Unfortunately this freemake conveter is not mac friendly so won't work for me. I have tried what you are saying on an "Aimersoft video converter" but the subs don't seem to show up on that either so they can't be hardcoded.

As I said, sometimes the subs show up, sometimes they don't. I will continue trying different converters. There must be something going on when the films are converted to avi / mp4 / mkv format.

Thank you again for your input.

You have to watch them with Media Player Classic (Windows Media Player won't display hardcoded subs!)

Also make sure that "Auto-load subtitles" is ticked under the playback menu in the options screen, otherwise it will not show them, even though under the properties and navigate menus it will show you the subtitles are correctly there.

Hope it helps. ;)
