With the arrival of 2016, there are lots of news articles about newsmakers of the year. I would like to hear about who your newsmakers of the year are. No criteria required; just who you think should get some coverage. Can be good, bad, ugly. Can be someone from your local community or celebrity. Anything goes!
I'll start.
Donald Trump. He's gone way further in the primaries that many people, including me, have thought.
Justin Trudeau. After a decade of Conservative rule, Canada elects a Liberal government. Newly minted Prime Minister Trudeau welcomes Syrian Refugees into Canada (meant to be a good juxtaposition off of the Trump entry, not the American people).
Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report. A major inquiry into Canada's treatment of Indigenous people was released... just in case you thought this was the land of milk and honey. Nope lots of issues here too.
Finally for this entry (because there are many more), terrorist attacks on France.
