Because they expect him to do all he promised so far.
It's not that I wouldn't grant him the price, but I think he is more someone who could have won it in the future and not after less than a year being President. He started a lot, but if it turns out to be good, we'll see in the end.

The international community is seriously deluded when it comes to Obama. I think the award, overall, shows the lack of substance and perhaps the envy that many career politicians have for someone who can do so little but sail through on an effective PR campaign (obama also won the best advertising campaign of the year award) that gives vague promises but ultimately leaves behind only a personality cult and the banality of business as usual. Escalating the wars against Afghanistan and Pakistan, murdering civilians, destroying homes, livelihoods, hopes and dreams in the process, was not a peaceful action. This award also works to undermine those of us who are US peace activists and would certainly like very different and very real actions to be taken by the president, instead of a surge in Afganistan days after this award was given. If the international community is so glad that Bush is gone that anything else deserves the nobel, they should push towards prosecution of bush administration officials for torture, war crimes, and illegal rendition.

I don't get it either, then again, I don't get politics, it's so damn dictator-like to me. I avoid it like the plague...unless I'm watching The Daily Show with Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert. Or even Bill Maher.
