3D Street Art (Paintings)

3d Street Art, often known as 3d chalk art is 2-dimensional artwork drawn on the street itself that gives you a 3-dimensional optical illusion from a certain perspective. It can be very breathtaking, realistic and at the same time captivating once you get the angle correct. And creating one is certainly through and challenging as you are creating a realistic 3d view out of a 2d painting.

Here are a few examples

Hot River

Asian Paints - Mumbai

T-Com

Escape Of The Mummy

A Fair In Cologne

Creative Benches And Seats

Many things shape the face of a city: buildings, bridges, parks, sculptures... even benches! That's right, this simple form of public furniture can also add more emotion to a particular site. Here are a few I found interesting.

Pencil Bench

Typewriter Bench

The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe Bench

Salvator Mundi was painted by Leonardo da Vinci for his patron Louis XII of France but ended up in the British Isles by way of a royal marriage a couple of decades later. It disappeared from historical records in the 18th century during which it was damaged and badly restored which rendered it no longer recognizable as a Leonardo. Sold at auction in 1904 and then again in 1958, selling for the modest sum of forty-five British pounds.

It was sold once again in the US in 2005 to a consortium of dealers led by Robert Simon for around $10,000. Simon, a New York fine art dealer specializing in Renaissance works, suspected it was worth much more than that, though he dared not yet dream it might be the lost Leonardo. Years of restoration work brought out the Leonardo concealed beneath the third-rate overpainting. It then sold for $75 million in 2013 and right away again for $127.5 million. Finally, just last October,*Salvator Mundi was purchased by a Saudi prince (on behalf of the Louvre Abu Dhabi) for $450.3 million dollars, making it the most expensive artwork ever sold to date.

The beautiful and mind-bending illusions in Canadian artist Robert Gonsalves’ paintings have a fun way of twisting your perception and causing you to question what in his paintings, if anything, is real.

Most of his stunning paintings have an unclear boundary between the multiple stories they tell, which forces the viewer to jump back and forth between them.

This reminds me of a cartoon I saw a long time ago (probably from the New Yorker) of a visitor of a medieval stone carver in his workshop chockfull of finished gargoyles. Caption: Where do you get your ideas?
