Phil Robertson, a reality TV star (Duck Dynasty), recently made horrific statements comparing homosexuality (and LGBTs) to bestiality (sex with animals) and terrorism (injuring and murdering loads of people mercilessly). He also said African Americans were better off during slavery.
A&E suspended him, GLAAD criticized his comments and guess what??? Millions LASHED OUT at A&E and GLAAD for doing so, hailing Phil Robertson as some kind of a Saint or a hero... I agree that he's entitled to his views but A&E was right to suspend him 'cause he went way too far in his comments. They're not obliged to associate with somebody that holds such extreme views.
There are Christian schools in the United States that will literally evict any openly gay or bisexual student or employee. It's happened several times. If it's okay for those schools to evict LGBT students and employees (just because of who they are and their views), it's okay for A&E to suspend or even fire any employee they feel misrepresent their station.
Many Christians (not all of them) are very, very hypocritical. I always get criticized for saying anything negative about Christianity but that's the truth. Way too much hypocrisy going on. Try saying: "Hail Satan!" or "I am my own God!" in the presence of Christians (or Muslims, or even Jews) and see if they respect YOUR freedom of speech... But if it's comparing gays to those involved in bestiality and terrorism, you get a pass and an accolade... I am very much ashamed of humanity. I am not truly happy at all! As a member of the LGBT community, I feel very much humiliated and insulted.
Also, take notice of the double standard... How come 10 years ago, when country trio Dixie Chicks and Madonna spoke out against the war in Iraq, they experienced a horrible backlash in spite of their freedom of speech (radio stations stopped playing them etc.) yet when Phil Robertson goes on a venomous rant on gays and homosexuality comparing them to adepts of bestiality and murderous terrorists, he gets praised for it and those that speak out against him (GLAAD) or discipline him (A&E) get vehemently attacked?
