I confess, I am a Potter fan, even though I think the last 3 books/movies are a bit disappointing. And, of course, totally agree about Cedric XD

I'm a very keen Potter fan, love the books, enjoy the films, and simply adore the audio books read by the wonderful Stephen Fry.

I would prefer the movie to follow the book's closely though, I really dont mind if it turns out to be a 5 hour long movie! Anyway its full of twists and "drama"!

What you want is a mini series!

Movies and books are different media, you can't just slavishly copy from one to the other or you get a really shit movie. You have to ADAPT a book into a film, and when you do that well you condense the book down to it's core themes and characters, and then built that into a great movie.

I think the best movie in it's own right is still the third, and it strays from the book a lot, but it perfectly encapsulates the core themes and characters, so the result is brilliance. Probably the worst of the films is 4 which completely loses track of the core characters and utterly messes up Dumbledore to an unforgivable extent. Another example of a really bad movie adaptation is 6 where the core plot is utterly lost and the fluff that pads the core plot in the book is senselessly promoted to the core of the movie. Book 6 is all about Voldemort's life, the Horcurxes, and the mysterious Half Blood Prince, the romance is secondary and happens around that core plot, the movie inverts that, and hence doesn't even fit it's title!

A friend of mine made me read the whole series. And I've seen all the movies up to the last part...

This said, I'm not really a huge fan. I liked the last book best, especially the part where everything seems lost.

My favorite movie was the one where they go back in time and make everything work out. This would definitely be the piece of magic to use when you mess up things!!!

Also, I think that Daniel Radcliffe is getting cuter in every movie...

Don't have the time to read the books.

In that case you might enjoy the audio books - that way you can 'read' the books while you commute and/or do household chores etc..

I enjoy the books and the movies, each for their own merits. I enjoy some of the fanfic out there -- some can be horrible, others quite well done...not sure which camp mine falls into. *hangs head* Yes, I've written some.

There's one scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that I really hope makes it to the screen in Part II...where Molly screams, "Not my daughter, you bitch!" Reading that I actually whooped out loud.

As eager as I am to see the last film installment, I wonder why the studio didn't hold off on the mainstream release for a couple of weeks. It would have been kind of fun to have it open on either Harry's birthday (31 July) or Neville's (30 July). Still not sure though which was the child of prophecy, but there's a part of me that thinks it wasn't really the one with the scar. ;)
