I received this private message on a spanking fetish site to which I belong:
I checked his profile. He lives in Florida, and is submissive (i.e. he takes spankings, does not give).
I have a profile on that site, which I took some time and trouble to fill out, but the guy clearly has not read it in full. Had he done so, he would have seen that (a) I am in Australia, therefore a physical relationship is out of the question; (b) While I will "switch" on occasion, I am more interested in being spanked than in spanking someone else, and in particular I am not interested in being someone's "Daddy", a term that irritates me and makes me slightly uncomfortable.
I get the impression that he saw my profile, saw that I am a certain age and reasonably fit, and thought "Aha, there's my daddy", without even bothering to read any further.
This is symptomatic of a general phenomenon I find these days: people don't actually READ a post or a profile before shooting off a response. It's as though they are unable to read past the first sentence. So many times I have hadthe following kind of scenario:
- I send an email asking some questions;
- I get a reply that half answers one of the questions, or is irrelevant;
- I respond "you didn't answer my questions, read my email again."
- They respond "Oh sorry, yes I should have read further."
Gawd.
Now I am not someone who believes in unnecessarily long prose - this post is one of the longest I have made on this site, and my belief is that if you can say something in 50 words, don't string it out to 500. Still when I am doing something like filling out a profile, I will take the trouble to tell the other person the things I think are important, that they need to know, and I think they should show me the same consideration by reading the entire thing before sending off a half-cocked response.
My only consolation is that if this guy can't assimilate more than one line of text before giving up, he is probably not someone I would get along well with in person anyway.
