Beauty knows no pain. For the longest time women (and a few men) had to subject themselves to this trial by heat to get a perm. That is, until they developed chemical heat for curling hair called cold wave.

Once I became conscious of my haircut, I started daubing my head from my older brother’s supply of this:



It smelled nice but in the tropic heat it melted and covered your face with a hard to take off sheen. Then a Japanese brand flooded the market with a cheaper version:

For some time that turned out to be not long enough, modern telecommunication circuitry got rid of the pesky telephone party line. Then they brought it back by way of social media.
