Seeking advice on software for recording streaming videos

I'd love some advice from those of you in the know. I want to record streaming videos from a website I intend to join. I've looked online for suggestions on what software to get (confusing!), and how well the end-product results.

I'm not the most technically sophisticated person you will find, so for me, #1 is simplicity/ease of us. #2 is quality of the recording.

I see there is freeware for this, and there are software packages you can purchase. I'm not against purchasing software if it is EASY TO USE and reasonable, but I've read also online that the freeware is as good as anything one might buy.

Is there anything else I need to know about or consider? I don't even know what it is that I don't know!:rofl:

I can't be sure it will work for every site on the planet, but, I find the "Video DownloadHelper" FireFox plugin very effective and easy to use.

Yes I have used that too. If it's a Firefox plugin you have the advantage that it's free and you know it's safe if it comes from the Firefox site. The picture quality is sometimes disappointing but that's the fault of the material, there is nothing the downloader can do about a poor source.

If you have jdownloader you need the link that points to the movie file. Here, you can get that in various ways, depending where the files is hosted. if you right click you may find the link, or if you open it in a new window. Sometimes you click on the logo of the hoster (porntube or whatever) and you get the URL.

If you copy the URL jdownloader does the rest.

I use F1refox for this purpose

- Get into F1refox, open the page containing the clip and start playing it

- Right click your mouse and choose to see information on the page

- On the new window choose 'media' and find your clip

- Now you need only to copy the address of the clip and open it in a new page, right click on it and you'll be able to save the clip
