Hey Math Geniuses:

I just started an online course for my last year of school and the course I'm taking is Statistics. At this time, I am soo lost..I have not received my textbook as of yet and was told that its on backorder and I may not receive it until the end of next week. Having the textbook is considered to be crucial because it displays examples of the problems that are assigned each week in the course. My problem is that next week will be going on the third week and although, I am capable of doing the Discussion Boards or the other projects, I am not knowledgeable enough to do the weekly projects. I have reached out to the professor but have yet to recieve any assistance. So, I was taking a chance by posting this on the forum with hopes that someone would reach out and guide towards the basic fundamentals of statistics for a person who do not know how to approach a problem within this type of math. Let me just thank whomever reaches out to me in advance...JW ~X(

Warez sites with ebook files will likely have statistics textbooks for download--the library at your college may have them as well. Perhaps not the exact text you were assigned, but something that could help you nonetheless. I managed to avoid taking math at college, so I couldn't give any guidance myself. Good luck.

Well if you have a specific problem you could let us know... I'm not guaranteeeing we would necesarrilly be able to help, speaking personally it's been a while since my regular use of distribution curves, T-scores and confidence limits... but you could give us a try;)

There can be significant differences between not just textbooks, but different editions of a particular textbook. You might find that the Lecturer has chosen the best and most relevant textbook for your course -so concentrate on getting a copy, whether it's first or second hand (or an ebook, per Ritsuka's suggestion).
If your lecturer is not replying, try getting help from a tutor/teaching assistant instead.

What type of help are you looking for specifically? I used to teach statistics (freshman level) and was an advanced stat's guy when I did consulting. It has been a few years, but I don't think I lost all my knowledge.

I can't give general stuff, but might be able to help you work through specific problems and issues.

You can find a lot of info online by just searching google. If this is your first ever Stats class, the first few lessons should be easy stuff like: mean, mode, median; finding averages, trends, patterns; looking at graphs (bar, line, circle); etc. You shouldn't be going into a lot of difficult stuff like calculating chi square off the bat. If you have more specific questions, it would be helpful to see what we can do for you.

Hi Guys:

First of all, let me thank you all for responding to my post. I really appreciate it. I have an UPDATE: I did manage to review some information that I found on the internet that helped me complete the two of the projects that I was behind on. But the problem that I'm having difficulty in understanding, I listed below for you all to review and possibly assist me with;

Section 2.1: Frequency Distributions and their Graphs

1. The School Action Society asked its members how many hours they had worked during the previous week in part-time jobs. The following data lists the number of hours spent working during the previous week.

6 6 6 4 6 6 9 8 6 3 7 6
6 7 6 6 7 6 6 8 6 7 8 4

1a. Using these data construct a frequency table with the included columns. Round the relative frequencies to three decimal places. (7 points)

Hours Tally Frequency f Midpoint Relative Frequency
3 - 4
5 - 6
7 - 8
9 - 10

1b. Using Excel construct a frequency histogram for the frequency table in part a. Use the midpoint as the horizontal axis and frequency f as the vertical axis. Copy the graph from Excel into the project Word document.

Well if I remember correctly frequency (f) is the population within the class limits, midpoint is straightforward, the lower limit of the class + upper limit of the class divided by 2, and Rel. Frequency is the frequency (f) in each class divided by the total number of results (in this case there are 24) ie 3/24; 13/24; 7/24 and 1/24

so the table should be something like this

class ___ frequency __ midpoint ____ Rel. Frequency

3 - 4 ______ 3 _________ 3.5 _________ 0.125

5 - 6 ______ 13 ________ 5.5 _________ 0.542

7 - 8 ______ 7 _________ 7.5 __________0.292

9 - 10 _____ 1 _________ 9.5 __________0.042

So the histogram should be like this, but without the gaps between the columns - I can't remember how to format it for that

Thank you so much...I really appreciate you taking time out to help me with this....;)
