Has there been a recent change in the code for the site in the last day or so? It used to be when thanks button was clicked to reveal links, it was a pretty quick process. Now it makes the entire page reload if I'm lucky but much of the time a forum message page will appear that I'm trying to do something that is administrative level.

IE8 and Vista

Thank you. I forgot, this is using IE 8 and Vista. Same thing I always use, but different as described below in the last day. I'll have to try Firefox or Opera to see how those are.

I have been using the thanks button without any problem so I don't think it's a technical issue. I recommend you use firefox for best performance when browsing the forum.

It could also be a temporary problem you've experienced when the forum was especially busy. We are currently doing everything we can so the browsing will be smoother.

Thanks for the reply. It appears the problem may be a recent update to Trend Micro (Titanium Internet Security) so I think I'll contact them. When TM is turned off everything works fine except it seems like the thanks button isn't always smooth and refreshes/reloads the whole page instead of a quick link reveal and username showing on the thanks list. Another odd thing TM seems to cause is when opening multiple tabs up it will mark one as "connecting" and then open the link in a new window instead of the tab. That connecting tab can't be closed, so have to kill IE through windows task manager. Firefox seems to have issues now as well related to Trend Micro.

Still troubleshooting.

Hello, cg1x!

It could be a simple problem with the program you use from Trend Micro. Does it deactivate JavaScript? If so, it will cause such symptoms in the forum, like renew the page instead of the quick link e.g.. :)

Java

Not sure what Trend Micro does with Java. Are there browser settings (IE or Firefox) to ensure Java is setup correctly inside the browser? I thought Tools>Internet Options in IE had it but didn't see anything. So far TM is checking hijackthis logs since they suspect malware.

It should be JavaScript not Java (there is a difference). There should be at least in TrendMicro an option to let it pass. Because I think it will "bypass" the browsers options, even if you have correctly enabled it there. :)

Update

Did find the fix, a rootkit was installed and had to be removed. Trend Micro had me run hijackthis and found some files to delete which didn't do the fix. Antivirus and other scans either wouldn't detect anything or if they said something was found and would fix it would not be fixed later on.

The fix was this free program TDSSKILLER described here. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-tdss-tdl3-alureon-rootkit-using-tdsskiller

I had google redirects, windows updates giving code errors when they wouldn't complete and the other stuff mentioned already. It didn't just mess with IE, Firefox was affected as well.
