The end of porn...

Today I sat in a committee hearing....about the status of the US porn industry.

things are getting real bad....they really need a bail out.....poor guys (only chick there was Hef's daughter).
But I can't believe that they think they might actually get taxpayer dollars to bail them out.

A questions asked on my behalf.....about new technologies entering the industry such as 3D to help re-energize it.....

the answer was.....
because the biz is hurting so much, don't expect any new innovations..what they need is a way to stop all the pirates because the pirates were killing the biz...

I hope not.....but something to think about..:?:?:?:?

This is very interesting; don't get me wrong, but considering that's exactly what we're doing here (sorry, guys; just being real), how do we become part of the solution, when in truth; we're just part of the problem?

No one pays for anything anymore. Music, movies, yes; even porn. It sucks and the ecomony sucks even worse right now. I highly doubt something such as porn will recieve a bailout when so many powerful people look down upon it (even though, those are usually the ones with the most porn on their hard drives/DVD's/etc.).

I don't know... it's just kind of funny to read this on a Forum which specializes in the very same thing they seem to be fighting against.

Why are the pirates here? it's because it's expensive! It's like a lot of things, we all seek out the cheap ways round it. It will never be stopped.

Here we do at least have scruples enough to ban anything being posted that the companies don't want us to do. I agree with that, in other ways extracts from vids can be good advertising.

The music biz is another subject and don't get me started on that!!

Overpricing and taking advantage is one sure way to attract piracy of anything!

Before you start blaming the Bloggers and pirates, you should know that many studios actually provide clips to them, like Xman said, it's good publicity, it gets their product out there and they don't have to pay for advertising or extra bandwith

Everybody needs to start pricing their stuff reasonably. I i can stay at home, and not pay for the cost of developing a cd, the materials, all the people to get it made and to a store, and the store's money, shouldn't it cost me less than .99, which is essentially just buying at cd price?
Time warner's new broad band pricing is, 1Gb a month for 29.99. Why on earth would you pay that much when you could just get dialup, slower but unlimited only by time? There is no innovation in some industries, and people need to realize that in order to be successfully greedy, they need to be competitive.

I am looking to start my own adult entertainment company, and as a college student, especially in a digital media production major, business minor, I think I could be successful with some ideas I have, all based on economics of scale. Think outside the box, people.

>>Think outside the box, people<<

Damn I hate corporate buzz words LOL

Please do not have a "mission statement" in your business :p

Most of it is common sense and treating staff like children. Nobody likes it and all resent it but put up with it because we all need a job.

Wonder if the "targets" disease has hit the porn industry LOL (yes, pun intended:p )

I think the financial crisis causing the fact that people don't have extra money for embarrassing non-necessities such as porn is what is sending the industry in a downfall, not piracy, which the big corporations complain about no matter how many billions their making.

Embarrassing??? I've never been embarrassed about looking at porn - most people do it given half a chance. I'm totally open about it. So are my friends, it's a far more acceptable thing now, at least here anyway, which is surprising considering the straight-laced reputation the Brits have, it's not true at all!! ;)

Well, I meant potentially embarrassing, really - I'm not embarrassed about it either, and neither are my friends.

I think everything nowadays is so overpriced. The companies shot themselves in the foot and to be honest yes piracy is a problem but not the only reason!! People just don't have enough money for things anymore...prices go up up up & our paychecks stay the same!

Look at it this way you cant steal food from a restaurant but the economy is so bad people arent eating out and restaurants are closing left and right..cant blame that on piracy now can you. So...i dont think anything will change. until prices are lowered that is.

Sadly a lot of British pubs are also closing. It's partly because it's cheaper to drink at home AND whatever your view, the smoking ban has really killed the trade.

Why go out if you're paying more & can sit at home with a beer and a cigarette instead of paying 3 times the price and being forced outside??

A short Rant

:-*Porn, in one form or another, has always existed and always will. Only the market will decide how it's made, in what form, and how it's distributed. Publishers and film-makers have always charged what the market will stand; in the UK - as with so many other things - this has meant charging high prices for poor quality goods until very recently. Now it's high prices for better quality goods.
Even when production values are high, the price of a DVD rarely bears any relation to costs or a 'reasonable' profit. If there is a fall in demand, or people choose to sample the goods via the internet before spending their hard-earned money, the production companies will undoubtedly market more of their products directly through the new media. This is already happening with many of the european studios, such as eurocreme.
I don't know how things are going in the states, but I can see no reason for bailing out an industry which carries on producing a product in a format that doesn't appeal to its potential customers. With the advent of easily obtainable videos, magazine sales plummeted. The same effect is bound to be noticed with DVD's now that high speed internet connections are widely used. Unless it is both cheaper and more convenient for the customer to get a DVD, he will not do so.
Companies could benefit from the 'free advertising' that sites like this provide if only they made their products available at realistic prices.
