My favorites, in order, among the TV series:
1. Star Trek: The Next Generation
2. Star Trek: Voyager
3. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
(tie) 4. Star Trek and Star Trek: Enterprise

Favorite captains:
Jean-Luc Picard
Kathryn Janeway

Who would I "do"?
Ensign Harry Kim (Voyager)
Hugh, the young Borg from ST:TNG who 'regains' some of his humanity
Wesley Crusher - I can handle the derision I could get for this - just because he filled out the uniform nicely...bubble-butt and looks like a sizable penor. (ST:TNG)
Captain Jonathon Archer, Chief Engineer Charles "Tripp" Tucker, Tactical Officer Malcolm Reed - preferably at the same time. (Enterprise)
Chief Medical Officer Julian Bashir (ST: DS9)

One of my biggest complaints from the franchise, as a whole, is:
NO GAY CHARACTERS!
I can under why it wasn't represented in Star Trek - even though it was set in the 23rd century - it aired in the 1960s. Keeping true to that, Enterprise, set in the 22nd century, wouldn't represent that from a time-line standpoint.

One would think, though, that by the third quarter of the 24th century, in which Next Generation and Deep Space Nine and Voyager are set, that some GLBT characters would crop up. From everything I've read and heard, it was Brannon Braga's strong opposition that kept such characters out of the franchise, even as background or supporting roles.

if you check out on star trek show called Star Trek Hidden Frontier. There is a gay story line. And lots of gay people on the show. It's free to watch. It takes place after Star Trek-Insurrection.

Since we've now gotten a few hits, here's mine.

Favorite Series
Deep Space 9 - great cast, characters and stories, very different from the rest of Trek

The Next Generation - the first series I remember and grew up on. Despite the first 2 seasons it grew into an excellent show again with a solid cast and characters

The Original Series - Yes, it's dated, but the chemistry between the big 3 (Spock, Kirk, Mccoy) makes it worth watching.

Voyager - had some good episodes but overall I thought it was a disappointment. The show had a great premise but TPTB seemed to be content on making it TNG-lite.

Enterprise - Same problem as VOY but more pronounced, and the cardboard characters didn't help any. The 3rd season was good and the 4th was good, but unfortunately we didn't get to see how it could have developed beyond that.

Favorite Captains

Benjamin Sisko (DS9)
Jean-Luc Picard (TNG)
James T Kirk (TOS)
Kathryn Janeway (VOY)
Jonathan Archer (ENT)

Who's Hot?

Actually i thought all of the series had by and large attractive men. If I had to choose one it was be DS9's Bashir (a doctor, genetically enhanced and so very, very pretty), VOY's Paris (I'm partial to tall, hot blondes) or TNG's Riker (even with the weight gain in later seasons I always thought he was very attractive).

Can't believe I forgot movies!

IMO, Star Trek doesn't translate as well to the big screen as we'd like it to. The movies I like are "Wrath of Khan", "Search For Spock", "The Undiscovered Country", "First Contact" and the 2009 reboot.

The TNG movies on the whole didn't work for me because TIIC forgot that it was an *ensemble* that made the television show work so well and overloaded us on Picard/Data in the movies. Picard I didn't mind so much because he's the captain, but Data was getting to be a bit much even near the end of the TV series and (unfortunately) his "quest to be human" continued in the movies to the detriment of nearly every other character. "Nemesis" was a whole new level of suck  and the first time I was ever disgusted at the end of a Star Trek movie. I tend to think of "All Good Things" the TV series finale as the true end for this crew, with "First Contact" as sort of an epilogue.

Yes, I know I'm very opinionated.

As a true StarTrek fan I loved "First Contact" and Wrath of Khan the best', "Nemesis" the worst.
I hated Enterprise, although some of the episodes were pretty good
As far as gay characters are concerned, I kept thinking that one day we would be treated to Malcom and Major Hayes getting married ,well they argued like a married couple, lol.1
Just curious but how many guys here think Lieutenant Hawk in First Contact was super hot ???
His blue eyes made me totally horny

Thanks. I have heard of this. I think I may have checked it out a time or two. I don't consider it to be an "official" part of the franchise; to me it is more like independent work or 'fan-fic'.

Yes, I agree completely...DS9 was an awesome show that expanded the ST Universe with it's beautifully acted/written secondary characters.

Voyager started out with a great premise, but Captain Janeway (and I do love her) became a bit unstable, in my opinion, trying to be too much like Kirk when she started off like Picard.

As far as hot guys, I would say Season 4-7 Riker, TOS Shatner, Season 4-7 Data, Gul Dukat (there's something so sexy about that man), One (the borg drone from Voyager), Tom Paris, Julian Bashir, Chakotay, Sloan from DS9, Romulan Senator from DS9 Episode where Bashir is on Romulus, and the new Dr. McCoy.

Totally agree except for Dukat - marvelous shades of gray character that I think got something of the short thrift in the last 2 seasons - but not for me.

Love or hate the Shat, he was gorgeous back in the day. I just found this hilarious video that accentuates that. I laughed myself sick and drooled simultaneously. :pP

With a little creative editing and the right music score, the entire Star Trek franchise gets gay...

The undeniable attraction between Kirk and Spock...

and a kinker side of Kirk and Spock...

Picard and Ryker and the love between man and machine (Geordi and Data)

Picard and Q in "The Morning After"...

The Daddy-Boy relationship between Picard and Wesley Crusher...

I can't believe that no one has mentioned Garak from DS9 as gay or at the very least bi character. The first episode he appears has Dr. Bashir wanting to run to the nearest air lock.

Actually on the gay story line, there was supposed to be one..
Lt. Hawk mentioned in another post was supposed to be gay in First Contact, however his "gay" scenes, or the scenes that lead to this, were written out or not filmed due to time we were told. I think there was rumours that exec's axed the story line due to the imagined "fears" of gays on screen.
So to this day when you see Hawk being taken over by the Borg remember thats one of us being taken over......
Wait... arent we supposed to be doing the taking over, makin all men gay... well at least according to the preachers lol lol how is it the borg takes him over... a story loop hole!!

My favourite show is TOS, since that's the only one I've watched so far... I love it's freakiness, the newer shows feel a bit too "normal" sci-fi to me. DS9 seems fun, though, maybe I'll give it a shot in the future. My favourite films are The Voyage Home, and to my surprise, the 2009 reboot. It was really good, and I can't wait for the sequel!

Am I really the only one who thinks that Spock and Sulu are the most gorgeous ST guys ever?? I like my men dark and lanky :pP

From everything I've read and heard, it was Brannon Braga's strong opposition that kept such characters out of the franchise, even as background or supporting roles.

I couldn't agree more - this is a real blight on the franchise in my eyes.

They do have a sort-of anti-gay-discrimination episode when Riker falls for a gender-less alien who falls for him and then gets brain-washed back to being 'straight'. That really is it though. Pretty poor show for the hundreds and hundreds of episodes created.

Despite that blight on the series - I still love it. An optimistic vision of the future is hard to come by, most scifi focuses on a world where things are fucked up. Arguably more realistic, but I still love Roddenberry for his optimism - we should strive for a Star Trek future, even if it's probably unachievable.

I recently watched all of TOS, TNG, and DS9 in order (off work ill for a few months - lots of time to kill!) - I was really surprised by how good TOS was getting just as they cancelled it. You really got the feeling that they'd found their stride - and BAM - gone :( Still - with the exception of the (slow) motion picture, the TOS films are a great continuation of the characters in the series.

I'd also forgotten how badly TNG started - it really did take them a few seasons to get into the groove - when the uniforms get collars, we're in business! And it just goes from strength to strength, ending on a real high. The TNG films are disappointing though - the BORG one was probably the high-point, but the later ones go down hill fast IMO - unlike the TOS films they are not loyal to the characters - but try to turn Picard into Kirk - seeing him joy-ride through a desert in a jeep was the point they jumped the shark IMO.

I loved DS9 - partly because it has a real story arc much more than any previous series. You can really see that they are competing with Bab5.

As far as I'm concerned - I pretend Voyager and Enterprise didn't happen. The last episode of Voyager is un-forgivable, and the pussification of the Borg in Enterprise (and indeed Voyager) is an equal cardinal sin. After DS9 it's all down-hill, and Enterprise is just pure sell-out. *ducks for cover*

As for favourites - you can't beat Picard as Captain, and Cisco is a worthy second, after his hair has migrated south from his head to his face that is.

As for cutest - I'm sorry to say I always had a crush on Wesley (bad pun, sorry), and other than that Jordi would top my list.

B.
