The mystery of the missing euro.
Three men are eating in a restaurant. They pay the waiter 10 euro each. So the total amount of money the waiter collects is 3x10=30 euro. But the boss of the restaurant is in a good mood and decides that the eaters’ should get a reduction. He gives the waiter 5 euro and orders him to pay that money back to the men. When the waiter walks to the table he gets puzzled. It is impossible to divide 5 by 3. So he decides to keep 2 euro for himself and gives the men 1 euro each in return. So far so good, but . . . he created a mathematical problem.
We started with 30 euro,
The men actually paid each 10-1=9 euro,
So the total amount of money they paid is 3x9=27 euro.
But, 27 euro plus the 2 euro of the waiter gives: 27+2=29 euro.
Suddenly 1 euro is missing!
What went wrong?
Please help!
