How nice. I'd like to see this in my country (Italy).

But with the Church to the government is not possible.

... and in any case, they would have to change the flag.

Last Gay Parade in Amsterdam.
Military was allowed to take part in uniform.
Their major complaint: not allowed to dance, because of the "dignity of the uniform".
This year they plan to have their own boat.

I'd like to live in your country.
Great test of civility and openness

The story behind the photo

Gay US Marine just wanted to show partner love

By AUDREY McAVOY, Associated Press – 3 days ago

HONOLULU (AP) — Sgt. Brandon Morgan didn't expect to become a global phenomenon when he kissed his partner upon returning from a six-month deployment to Afghanistan.

But then last weekend, a friend posted a photo of their embrace on the Gay Marines page on Facebook. Morgan, in desert camouflage, is seen wrapping his legs around Dalan Wells' legs. A large U.S. flag is in the background.

Photos of exuberant servicemen and homecomings aren't new. But this one, taken some five months after the repeal of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy prohibiting gay servicemen from openly acknowledging their sexuality, is among the first showing a gay active-duty serviceman in uniform kissing his partner after coming home.

This been overplayed

Excuses, but my English is not sufficient. What do you mean with overplayed?
If you mean that this video is shown far too much, could be you're right, I wouldn't know.
But if you mean that the video is organised, not a replica of reality, you are certainly wrong.
Since many, many years it is allowed to serve as a known (or even gay-married) homosexual in the Dutch army. There are high rank officers who are openly gay.
It doesn't mean that everything about homosexuality is perfect in The Netherlands. There are still a lot of people who need to be cured of idiotic aversion. But legally there is no problem.
A while ago the Chief Rabbi (Aryeh Ralbag) of the Jewish Community in Amsterdam signed a petition in which was declared that homosexuality is a disease. The man got so much opposition from the "average Dutchmen" that he was suspended. He made apologies for his behavior.

I don't think that hammervice was referring to the video but the original photo Tjerk. it has most probably been shown on every channel and newspaper in the USA. But even so it has made a lot of people happy here and is good to see.

Plus, not everyone on this forum happens to live in the USA.

Nice to see - hope the guy doesn't get into trouble...

See that's the great thing - with the repeal of DADT, he CAN'T get into trouble for this - a brave new world for gay service personnel in the US!

Overplayed? - not by a long shot.

I strongly disagree with hammervice about the picture being overused. For decades we gay men have had to watched as the world oohed and aahed over emotional pictures and videos of hetero soldiers, sailors and airmen being reunited with their opposite sex partners. I, myself, have shared in the relief as they returned safely to their families. Sometimes I was moved to tears by the warmth of the reunions. But every time I saw one of these stories on the news, I felt left out. I wondered if gay men and lesbians would ever be allowed the same privilege of showing their joy at being reunited with a loved one.

Well, that day has come at long last and instead of carping about too much exposure, we ought to be standing up and cheering that a marine can openly show his love for another man and his happiness at coming home. This without shame or reservation.

This is living history. Everyone should celebrate.I say more power to these two guys, May they share a long and happy life together.
