Seem to have (luckily) stumbled on one place that is free from the hysteria that is engulfing the UK, not to mention the rest of the world. Is this just a mega-celebrity event, or is it a thing that sets the UK apart from much of the rest of the world? Eat your hearts out, Sarkosy and Berlusconi, not to mention Barack & Michelle.

I would be interested to hear what others on this site are doing, apart from getting pissed & lying in the sunshine. Is this topic worth replying to?

I found that going grocery shopping, doing some plumbing and washing the cars was a far more interesting way to spend the day so far (but then again so would watching paint dry!).

Well I have been watching paint dry... I've been decorating the lounge.

I'm just glad it's over:), for the last 2 weeks the UK media has been totally obsessed with it... will she promise to obey him?; ..what will the dress look like?; ..where will they go on honeymoon?.. what title will the Queen give them? etc etc... and me shouting "who cares" at the radio and TV ~X(~X(~X(

They were claiming that over 2 billion people worldwide will have watched it live... well I wasn't one of them.

In Hong Kong (China, former British colony) it was quite a hot topic. William is good-looking anyway.

I couldn't give a monkeys - I think the very concept of Royalty is absurd and should have gone the way of leeches and bleeding and other medieval crap long ago.

But - I'm not British, so who am I to tell them how to run their country? The Brits still seem to have a real love for their royals, so this must be a great day for them. Lots of pomp, splendour, and pageantry, it certainly is a real spectacle, so if that's your cup of tea, I hope you had a great day!

I also hope that this wedding has a much happier ending that William's mother's fairytale wedding. I have to say, I don't envy royalty, I pitty them immensely, these are not celebrities who choose to enter into a public life, they are born into it and have to sink or swim as best they can. I'm sure the castles are lovely, but I wouldn't swap my simple and private personal life for their gilded cage.

Then again, if Prince Harry were to suddenly realise he was gay and ask me to marry him .......

Royal Wedding

I have tried to avoid anything to do with it but it has been absolutely EVERYWHERE!

I spent the time it was on TV catching up on the really exciting things in life like washing the kitchen floor.

I knew when it was all over because the deaf old lady next door's TV finally fell silent and I could, for a short period, hear myself think again.

I thought it was tomorrow for some reason, didn't realize it was today. Can't say as I've paid much attention to it though. Are many guys really interested in it? Seems like its a woman's thing. So did it rain in London like they were worried about? Did any of the protesters do anything?

I'm neutral on the Royalty thing. I like that its one of Brittain's great traditions, and I kinda like 'Grand Authority' as you find in monarchies. (As opposed to petty authority as in government clerks. ) I like the history behind Europe's monarchies, and learning about them. Diana's two sons seem like good ambassadors for the crown, they seem pretty normal. As did Diana. It works for the Brits and I hope they don't end it anytime soon.

I didn't even know it was happening until it did, but I haven't watched a bit of it. It seems sick and sad that this was all going on while the UK government is pushing through austerity measures that will create mass poverty among the people. I think it's long overdue for the monarchy and house of lords to be abolished.

Technically the price of the wedding is a drop in the ocean compared to the savings coming form the austerity stuff, probably not even an hour's worth of austerity if you were to look at it in terms of how many billions are being cut over the year's budget. But - the sentiment is just wrong. It's a slap in the face to the working folks in the UK who are going to suffer from these cuts while the big-wigs continue as if there was nothing wrong.

During the coal miners strikes E-II-R did the right thing by refusing special treatment for the Palace and suffering through the power cuts like everyone else. Whether or not buck house had it's lights on or not would have made no real difference, but, it was nice to see the Queen sharing in the nation's troubles. This - this is the opposite of that. This is the monarchy being totally out of touch and flying in the face of the public mood.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, Prince Charles got married to Camilla not too long ago, and that was a much more normal wedding, nothing like this extravaganza. If the gosip one can't help but hear is to be believed, Kate wanted a quiet wedding, and from what I understand, Will is not too fond of the limelight either. For who's benefit was this supposed to be? Doesn't seem like it was for the couple's benefit, and that in itself is wrong too.

At least it's over!

Although - the Queen is visiting Ireland in a few weeks - so it'll be our taxes going towards all the pomp and ceremony then, and we'll have to listen to rabid right wing loonies go on about 800 years of oppression and other such xenophobic crap. Hopefully after that I can go back to not noticing the Royals.

For many this is a nice boost, a lot of people love it and it creates a feel good factor. I'm no ardent royalist but I totally support them being there. They are generally very good for the country in my opinion.

To the lefties who want to see the back of them, well they have no power, they are now just figureheads, and the character of the country would change without them.
You'd certainly never get all the street parties etc if it was a president getting married.

From what I can tell William is very people friendly and he's certainly done a lot for increasing the popularity of the Royals. For the first time a Prince and heir has married someone who was met naturally and comes from a totally opposite background.

None of the pomp really interests me but I know many like it, I had other things to do rather than sit & watch it. It'd only be slightly less boring than a football match :p

You mean it's over? Yay!

And I'm afraid I wouldn't be interested in "Hitler Harry", even if I thought he genuinely did have royal blood, which I somehow doubt. William has a bald patch just like Charles. Harry looks nothing like Charles, but he is the spitting image of his father.

This little piece of news has killed any interest I might have had in the event. Talk about sensitive. I thought the British were supposed to have a sense of humour.
