I'm starting to feel like a minority. True, the coverage was intense but I looked forward to the Royal Wedding. I took the day off work -- 80% of the reason was for my birthday -- went to my parents' and we stayed up all night then watched every minute commercial-free on BBC America. I think William and Catherine are grounded, sensible and personable in comparison with most others in The Firm. Heck, they could even walk into a corner shop and buy a carton of milk if they had to; I doubt Prince Charles could even find a corner shop.

I've no bone to pick whatsoever with the Royals, long may they enjoy their stuff - but not at the expense of proper news and commentary on what is important to me, in North America.

Well, coverage of the royal wedding is important to millions of people world wide and especially here in the US. The news services are doing what they are supposed to do - reporting on the news thats fit to print.

The wedding is not important to you (or to me either) but to millions of others it is.

In fairness, there is reporting and there is reporting. There were two real news stories that indeed should have been widely covered, the engagement and the wedding itself. The MONTHS of waffle about choice of dress and such like is not actually news, it's gossip. It belongs in womens magazines and celebrity shows, it is not news.

The fact that the news media thinks it's supposed to be a gossip mag is a giant problem, it results in people being woefully ignorant about the world they live in.

This little piece of news has killed any interest I might have had in the event. Talk about sensitive. I thought the British were supposed to have a sense of humour.

Well, that's a fair assessment, eh?

The British do have a great sense of humour. It is Prince Charles who has none. His office appears to have laid down the conditions you object to. We, the people, had no say in it at all. We never do.

Given Charles's prickliness (too pompous and self-regarding for comfort?) it will be interesting to see what happens to the institution of Monarchy if/when it is in his hands. If he cannot keep his mouth shut, his dafter or more outrageous views private, keep his notorious temper in check or is unable to resist treading/wading into political matters, we could be in for a fantastic free show.

As an avowed Republican, I'd love to see him as King. He could do untold and irreparable damage in no time at all.

The same topics crop up on every forum I visit, with almost identical subject headings. This includes forums that have nothing to do with sex or porn. Makes me wonder if there is an overlap of members? Interesting...

Eat your hearts out, Sarkosy and Berlusconi, not to mention Barack & Michelle.

Actually...I didn't see the first post in this thread. I kind of jumped in.

If the only thing which makes us stand out in the world is having a Royal Wedding every few decades, we are truly and utterly fucked.

For all the talk of upholding "British tradition," where was the traditional insistence on virginity of the bride, including invasive examination by the Royal Doctor, and a public declaration by him of the status of her hymen? :p

Where were the ladies in waiting and other required eyewitnesses to the consummation of the marriage, with bloodied sheets hung out the window of the Royal Bedchamber for the commoners outside to see and cheer?

As for myself, if I feel a yen to watch a Royal Wedding, I will pop in my DVD of La Reine Margot, where I can enjoy the splendor of Isabelle Adjani's unparalleled beauty and majesty. No royalty on earth can compare favorably to her!

I'll take people of proven merit, whether they be talented actors/actresses, great singers, authors, scientists, etc. over someone whose only significance is a hereditary connection. Very little is actually asked of these silly figureheads except to comport themselves with dignity, and they seldom can even manage that.

My favorite moment of the whole day was the shot of sign being held up b y someone in the crowd outside Buck House. "CHECKMATE, KATE. YOU'VE TAKEN THE KING."

It was great on all levels - escapism from the usual dull day - some romance - and a chance to do what we all love to do, look at celebrity and do a critique of how good/bad they are looking/dressing/appearing with!

It was a lovely thing. They obviously love each other. I watched his parents wedding in 1981. Charles and Diana seemed awkward together and William and Kate seem like they fit together hand in glove. It was sweet.

It was nice but I'm glad the hoopla has finally died down.
