Ronald Lee Ermey was an American actor and voice actor known for playing Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket, which earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He was a former United States Marine Corps staff sergeant and an honorary gunnery sergeant; during his tenure in the U.S. Marine Corps he served as a drill instructor.

Ermey was often typecast in authority figure roles, such as Mayor Tilman in the film Mississippi Burning, Bill Bowerman in Prefontaine, Sheriff Hoyt in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, Jimmy Lee Farnsworth in Fletch Lives, a police captain in Se7en, plastic army men leader Sarge in the Toy Story films, Lt. "Tice" Ryan in Rocket Power, the warden in SpongeBob SquarePants, and John House in House.

Ermey hosted two programs on the History Channel: Mail Call, in which he answered viewers' questions about various military issues both modern and historic; and Lock n' Load with R. Lee Ermey, which concerned the development of different types of weapons. He also hosted GunnyTime on the Outdoor Channel.

He had a lot of problems with drinking leading to severe pancreatitis says one article. Not the cause of death but I bet it played a part. :thinking:

Luke says that when he saw Avicii in August of 2015, “he looked terrible”. So bad, in fact, that Luke worried the 26-year-old would join the “27 club” of music and film stars who died at that age. “It sounds horrible but it’s the truth, and I can’t take back the *overwhelming sense of frustration I felt,” the Dutchman says.

He almost got into the 27 club - with Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and others

As far as I get it he wasn't at a happy place in his life, trying for the last few years to stop being AVICII and become Tim Bergling once again - getting too famous too fast is an extremely strong drug. It can kill you. And severe pancreatitis on top of that...
