Thread Display Option - Quirk

I have my user CP set to 40 posts per page. When I go to the main page for a forum, it shows a thread's total pages based on 40 posts per page. Unfortunately when I actually go to that thread it defaults over to 10 posts per page.

The quirk comes in when I click on show latest posts in the thread, it does so based on 40 posts per page, but when I want to click over to the next page (as in all the newest posts are not on the 1 page), it reverts back to 10 posts per page and I am taken somewhere else in the thread, not what should logically be the next page based on new posts.

Is this something I need to adjust on my CP, or a quirk in the system?
