I'm having a bad day - anyone know how to get rid of Javaws.exe*ws32 - a nasty little trojan?

And if there is no software to get rid of it will a full factory re-set wipe it away or will it still be lurking within the operating system????

Is there a limit to the number of factory resets allowed ? - I had to do one a month or so back due to another problem.

This is apparently a (hi-jacking) trojan that disguises itself as a Java file (so a google search told me)... I guess that the real one (without the *32 ??) would not duplicate itself and appear over 1000 times in my task manger with process use staying constant at 100%.

Tonight there were no appearances of it in the task manger but most files running now had the .....exe*32 ending and agian processor use at 85 - 95% but with almost nothing supposedly running.

Presuming that this IS a trogan will a system reset to factory defaults get rid of it???

I have tried several scanners YAC; SpyHunter; MalawareBytes; AVG - sadly all to no avail.... several System Restores have also failed to get rid. ~X(~X(

btw - I'm using my old, but very very slow prehistoric laptop for this as I don't want to risk compromising any secure logins for GH & e.mails etc.

Javaws is Java Web Start, so it is used to launch Java apps downloaded from the net. It is possible something nasty has gotten in and is using Java Web Start for it's own nefarious needs.

It is also possible it is malware pretending to be JavaWS.

The bottom line is that your computer sounds very sick.

Assuming you have backups of your data, a factory restore would definitely be my suggestion. I can't promise it will be fix your problem, but it's more likely to than not. Some viruses get their teeth in so deep that even a factory restore will not shift them, but those are the exception rather than the rule.

Well after several different available-on-line scanner/cleaners it looks like things are back to normal, the task manager indicates no multiple processes running and CPU useage seems to be running as it should - currently @ 14% with a very quiet fan! :):):):):):):cheers::cheers:.... so glad I decided to give it another couple of days with further scanning before biting the bullet and doing a factory re-set!

Running on the old laptop was so frustratingly slow though.... X_X
