Since I own an old nokia n95 8gb, I found a way to use my phone as a navigator in the car, especially for free, use the time sygic with satisfaction, I'd be curious if you use software such as browsers and smartphones, iPhone, Android, Maemo etc.

I have the iPhone and I just use the built-in maps app on the very rare occasion that I'm going somewhere I don't know the way to.

I have a Palm phone with a built in GPS chip and a proprietary carrier navigation app. It works superbly. Almost as good as a separate hand held GPS. It is indispensable to me, I use it daily if not several times a day. But the advantage is your phone is always with you and turned on, unlike a separate GPS.

I used it earlier today while ice skating - it measured distance, average speed, and calories I burned. This is only one app.

On the rare occasion I need to, I use an atlas :p

There was a report the other day saying that with all these gadgets doing it for you the art of reading a map is being lost. If we ever have a complete technological crash there are going to be a lot of lost people :))

Got a built-in GPS module in my Blackberry and have an app called Telenav. I use it if travelling to places I'm not familiar with out of town, otherwise I use a paper street map for the area around where I live. Too much hassle to program locations and stuff into the software just to get turn-by-turn directions. Half the fun in driving is getting lost and finding your way out.
